Opel Silver Build Thread

Post by Shakeystevo »

Morning all.

I've been a user of the forum for a while now (sucking in all the user knowledge!). I've decided to start my own build thread as I am now in a good position to start my Stage 2 modding.

I am a proud owner of an Opel Silver 2.0 TSI - 59' plate.

I have made a few mods but only cosmetic; LED interior bulbs, pressed plates. I have also installed an Android head unit.

My plan in the next few months is to start Stage 2 modding. I have my mind set on APR for the re-map and intake system. I am still open to the exhaust setup but thinking of either a duel (or quad) tailpipe setup.

I also want to add some subtle exterior mods; I was thinking carbon parts (i.e. diffuser, spoiler etc).

What do people think on the carbon look on Opel Silver? I am not too sure at the moment :?

Hopefully be able to update this as I plod along - any initial comments would be great

Quick update - just ordered some new front disks and pads.

Went with MTEC disks (drilled) and some Mintex pads; so thats my weekend job!

Anyone any thoughts on the Opel Silver and carbon exterior mods? will the combination go...?

I am not sure about carbon with opal silver.
Retrofit of complete r line kit would look very nice (it is a rare color and i haven't seen one in r line), together with some lowering springs and some black wheels.

Thanks roc82. I'm the same.. not quite sure it will go.

Like the idea on r line kit. I'll have a look and see what's about.

Morning all.

First package in the post yesterday

Set of MTEC front discs and Mintex pads - my job for the weekend (weather permitting!)

I am on the look out for a Miltek exhaust (CBS) and APR Carbonio Intake System (stage 2 preferred) - drop me a message if anyone is looking to get rid of theirs. I am in no rush, so holding out for a nice price ;)

Managed to get the discs and pads fitted - quite impressed with them - haven't fully tested yet but feel good over stock.

You will see an even greater improvement after some miles. Don't forget about bed in procedure, it is very important to do it correctly immediately after installing the new discs and pads.

First, it would be recommended to read the instructions from your discs and pads, because there are differences between suppliers reco in how to bed in correctly.
Then, if they recommend to do repeated braking from a certain speed, try to find an emptier straight road so you can repeat this maneuver.

For my set, i did the following:
- brake (medium pressure) from approx. 35 miles to 5, but without completely stopping (repeat this for 5-6 times).
- continue driving without braking for a while(if possible), so brakes would cool down.
- brake from 50 miles to 5, harder pressure (repeated for 3 times),
Parked the car in order to cool the brakes, important at this step not to keep the brake pedal pushed when stopped.

When I got my MTEC discs, I think they recommend using brakes with minimal pressure for first couple of hundreds miles to clean the coating of the surface. Then you can do the bedding in as roc82 suggests. (I did the same and I could feel the heat from standing near the wheels! And I kept the hand brake off too.)

I assume you went for silver coating for your discs?

Afternoon,

Quick update before the New Year festivities!

Managed to get round to fitting my rear discs and pads - happy to say... no more squeal!! so really happy with that... with the brakes done I can move onto the other parts...

Forgive my dirty wheels!

Also managed to get the intake system fitted. I went for the Evoms intake (nice price from forum member  ). Sounds very nice indeed :hyper: just need the stage 2 piping to finish it off.

Happy New Year everyone.

Thanks for the interest guys. Looking into Revo map currently but been advised for a custom map by a local tuner who specialises in VW. But means I need to get rest of mods fitted :)

Afternoon all,

Gave the car a much needed wash and detail yesterday and decided to give the engine bay a clean...

As a result of a spontaneous buy from Halfrauds; I've added a bit of red bling to the engine bay :)

Hi.

Mine broke :(

Radio was really bad quality - even after upgrading the wiring etc..

Also had issues with Bluetooth.

Old RCD added and on the hunt for RNS in the coming months...
