Badger damage

Post by raju »

Jane hit a adult badger last night midnight on way home, and drove home with offside front plastic dragging on ground, about one mile, country lanes. Cannot see any metal work damage, brakes and steering ok, front bumper and under tray is mangled, there is a white plastic container that is no longer properly supported and does not have anything in it, Brock apparently ok, thought fluid leak when dropped friend off, but not when got home, light warning light showing on dash, no other warnings. Plan to duck tape it back together and drive to garage but a bit nervous about the fluid loss possibility, anyone know what the white plastic container is for? washer bottle?

If it is the white container on the offside then it is the washer bottle and if water is low or empty mine gives a warning on the MFD but not sure all do that.

Try the screen wash button if nothing happens its that. I'd try filling it up and see if it comes straight out (may have broken in the accident and need replacing) - I've hit a badger before in a fiesta, tore all the exhaust heat shielding away so had to replace all of that too. So may want to check that, garage will most certainly put it on a ramp so u can look properly under and look from there. Hope everyone was ok - probably more shock than anything else. Good luck.

yep, is screen wash bottle and is split, ran straight through when I tried to fill, tho' is still firmly attached. Good news is covered by insurance and no loss of NCD, tho' £150 excess to pay, suspect cheap for the list of parts and labour. There is no body damage I can see and no body paint damage, but bumper, under tray, wheel arch sleeve, grill, the trim under light, air dam (cannot remember if separate like Polo) and washer bottle, all have damage and will be replaced. No fur or blood anywhere, impact was very glancing on side just in front of wheel so no damage underneath, and no sign of Brock damage on road or local area. Cannot see any problem with lights so maybe the warning is for the empty washer bottle.
Just spotted still listing first Scirocco (white) in details, kept this three years, and traded for new in black plus leather. doing less mileage now, 20K+ a year for the first, averaging 18k for this one.
Insurer uses G B Flint Coach builders Nottingham for repairs, could use dealer but then pay more than twice, GBF have good reviews on line so going this way.
Have screwed all back together with builders band across the breaks and covered the sharp bits with vinyl tape, ground and wheel clearances both good now. Survived ok on M1 run this afternoon to Leicester and back. Just needs to last until parts arrive. Only tape had handy is 3 inch wide with HANDLE WITH CARE printed red on white :/

Glad u r getting it sorted. Always best to go via body shop and insurance as they guarantee their work usually 3 years. Take it u have protected no claims bonus - as if not this claim will affect your bonus, and will affect your premiums as must be disclosed as a fault claim on any quotes for next 5 years - just something to have in mind though.

Need to check that the VW 12 year body warranty remains intact. Check with insurers that body shop is VW approved.

I hit a fox in my wife's Golf at 70mph. Took out the radiator and had to get towed home. Whole new bumper and radiator needed, total repair bill £2300, £300 excess. As greg7288 says, unfortunately any incident where costs cannot be recovered from a 3rd party are counted as fault claims. Frankly the fox wasn't paying attention and turns out they weren't insured either. They did pay the ultimate price for it though :(
It didn't seem to have a crazy effect on my premiums.

I hit a badger in my first car Clio. Ripped the whole front bumper and both fog lights off the car. The front under tray and the radiator bracket were mangled too.
Bloody solid them badgers!
Hope it all gets sorted
