Re: Any Lawyers On Here?
Just called VW Customer Services to explain that USA citizens are receiving good will gestures.
They have told me right now that no UK customers will be receiving them due to different emissions tests.
Looks like we will have to wait until we receive another letter.

Re: Any Lawyers On Here?
I don't think anybody will get anything over here. Apart from the already offered discount on a brand new car. What car you buy determines how much you get off.
A new Scirocco you get £1000 straight off plus what ever else you can haggle off. I think that's all we will get.

Ok, who like me has received a letter from vw to say that their vehicle IS affected by the emissions scandle, has paid hard earned money for car to have re map, which will be lost when plugged into diagnostics machine? What to do?

Simple don't take it in to get done.
They would more than likely remove the remap when you take it for a service anyway.

Re: Any Lawyers On Here?
Mine isn't remapped but was speaking to my local VW dealer when I had mine in for a service and was told that if my car was remapped then to tell them and they wouldn't apply the update to the car and that this should be done anyway as updates are applies fairly regularly. Whether that's true or not I don't know. He did also say that most cars will most likely be done at a service.sazzblue wrote:Ok, who like me has received a letter from vw to say that their vehicle IS affected by the emissions scandle, has paid hard earned money for car to have re map, which will be lost when plugged into diagnostics machine? I then told him that my car will most likely never be back to VW for a service due to the risk of it getting 'fixed' he replied it was my car and I could tell them not to apply any updates and if they did they would be doing unauthorised work. Doubt it's that simple though.

Re: Any Lawyers On Here?
Unbelievable!!! If that news is true that is definitely treating one car owner different to another. Doesn't matter how they promoted it. Surely not everyone in the USA bought a Roc because it was promoted as a clean running car.Shaun1982 wrote:Anyone heard thus yet?

I don't agree with the comment about almost half the cars in Europe are diesel anyway, doesn't mean it's ok does it.

Re: Any Lawyers On Here?
If this turns out to be true then it's a disgrace, VW takes it for granted that we will continue to buy their cars, when the time comes, I for one will seriously have to consider other brands after 12+ years of VW ownership

Re: Any Lawyers On Here?
I'd say with 100% certainty that nobody in the USA bought a Roc because it was promoted as a clean running car. Infact I can say with certainty that nobody in America has bought a Roc full stop as you can't buy one there.C00PS wrote:Surely not everyone in the USA bought a Roc because it was promoted as a clean running car.
You seem to have a real issue with this. So far I know I have not been put out one little bit by it, and yes I do own one if the 'affected' cars. My cars not worth any less, and it hasn't cost me anything extra. My view may change though I doubt it as I have no intention of bringing it back to get 'fixed' or 'updated'.

Re: Any Lawyers On Here?
Think the real issue there r two types of people pursuing this, people who love a claim for anything and everything and people who have had their car remapped and are worried it would be cleared by the "fix" - VW haven't even got the fix sorted yet I think it's much ado about nothing - just drive the car, enjoy the car and cross the bridge when and if it comes to being an issue. That's my viewpoint anyway FWIW .

Re: Any Lawyers On Here?
I just saw it & thought I'd post it as there's. Thread about it, its that simple. Another thing is we've heard how stupid some people are, saying their Vw is dangerous etc as they know nothing about it other than Vw did a naughty. I was even told in Vw two weeks back that other dealers are offering less trade in etc on them because of the scandal so in a way your car is worth less & slightly harder to sell( depending on where its taken to part ex etc & that some people out there won't want a Vw because of the scandal) I won't be getting rid of mine for a long time so it makes no odds to me

Re: Any Lawyers On Here?
Every manufacturer posts 'false' MPG and CO2 numbers. They're attained on rolling roads in highly artificial conditions. No one ever gets close to the manufacturers numbers.
Just sounds like the Daily Fail making a mountain out of a molehill. It says VW are offering to buy back vehicles but nothing in the text actually says that, just a quote from a money grabbing lawyer saying that's what they should go for. The document given to customers says the numbers may change but doesn't say how much by. What if the book value is 37mpg and then changes to 36.8? Would people feel aggrieved? No probably not. It only makes a difference if you cross a tax threshold.
As for all the other issues, until VW actually says what those issues are, what their proposed solution is and how that affects the owners of those cars, there isn't a lot to do other than wait. The US payouts are different because their testing is different.
Plenty of other makers have had large, costly and embarrassing recalls and it hasn't affected them a lot. I think this will be the same.
