Rear Break Binding

Post by ZinaZonic »

Had my scirocco tested for bfg today and it failed on the LH rear break binding, does anyone know what that means and is it expensive to repair, Ive booked it into the garage but don't want to get ripped off,

Thanks

Rear brake binding is quite common on VAG cars. It just means the brake pads are not fully releasing from the disc due to the piston in the caliper not returning back fully when the brakes are released.

Normally the solution is just to strip and clean each of the rear calipers. Depending on how long it has been binding and how hot the pads have got, it may need a new set of rear pads. You're looking at 1 - 1.5hrs of labour and about £40 for a set-off OEM pads, if it needs them.
