Any Lawyers On Here?

Post by C00PS »

So enlight of the emissions scandal. Where do we as the hard working tax payer stand when we fork out alot of money for a car that the manufacturer is lying to us about?

Do we have a case to sue?
Anyone got any info on the matter?

I don't think there will be any case . If vw remedy the car with no impact on emissions or performance there is no case as no one will be worse off.

Not a lawyer, but surely we have some sort of recourse on some consumer rights law. I don't plan to take it lying down if it affects power, economy or a drastic drop in resale value.

Until people know what if any the negative effect of any fix will be there is no grounds to sue anyone. Just a bunch of scumbag ppi style claim companies trying to cash in and a bunch of people trying to make a fast buck.

If they're offering this then they must be worried about people taking legal action. This seems like hush money to me. Some people will buy this but not me.

Well I have no hard proof.
But withen the link posted it says this.

VW owners will not be required to sign anything giving up their right to sue the car manufacturer or forcing them into arbitration, a VW spokeswoman added.

It'll be interesting to see if they offer any £££ to us non-Americans. I'm still not clear as the whether the "defeat device" actually affected the European emissions test, although from the numbers published so far, it seems like it probably did, otherwise they shouldn't have passed. If that's the case, then I don't see why Europe should be any different than the USA. But there's a lot more VW customers in Europe, so I imagine they'll do their utmost to avoid paying out if they can, otherwise it's going to cost them big time.

Surely what ever they have offered in USA they have to offer the same anywhere else?

Plus, why have USA owners been given this deal ahead of anyone else?

It's definitely going to be interesting when VW make a decision and make it public. I bet their lawyers are working around the clock to devise some sort of get out excuse.

The gases that are mis represented aren't part of our mot test in the uk, and the problem first became apparent for the us market which is why they are getting anything ahead of any other country, as they were the first country to find a problem .

I read on a news page last night that two weeks ago they admitted to cheating carbon dioxide emissions too. That's gotta affect our cars this side of the. pond too?

I wouldn't mind a couple of grand discount on a new/newer VW, I'd be tempted by that

I read that too - also affects some petrol engines apparently, but sounds like it is 1.4 models with cylinder on demand technology so not sure that applies to Scirocco's?
