Another new TDI

Post by maisbitt »

Just got my new GT TDI in Pewter Grey. That colour looks bluer the more that I look at it - it's more of a Silver/Baby blue mix than Grey - Not regretting it.

Shame about the headliner - got the light one, thought all GTs have dark (must just be the 2.0TSIs).

Had fun messing with all the controls and making the settings. Got 2 cans of upholstery Scotchguard and applied liberally to the seats, carpet and cloth trim - it's like a glue sniffers paradise in there right now! Just applied 2 coats of Mer and we're prepped.

Coming from the MK5 Golf, theres a hell of a difference in ride quality, the ride is so much smoother even with 18" wheels (vs 17" on the Golf GT Sport), in all modes - the Golf could be a little crashy. The interior is a marked improvement too, although for the £10 it would have added to the list price, why did VW not put that sliding cover on the cup holders?

The car's inside makes the Scirocco feel much more robust than the Golf, and gives the impression as you sit in it that the car is bigger than a Golf on the outside (even though it isn't).

The parking sensors seem a little sensitive - constant pips at a foot away from the obstacle - could do with half of that distance, but as some have a heavy right foot when reversing, this probably suits the masses.

No regrets about ditching the Golf at all - and i've never had a car draw so much attention - everyone I passed was pointing or having a good gawk.

Saw a MK6 GTI in the dealership when picking up - damn that thing is plain! Those wheels are the only thing that say it's a GTI side on, and if they hadn't made the red detailing lines 4 times thicker than on the MK5 GTI, i'd swear it was a normal Golf GT. Split pipes on the back are a very nice touch though.
