Couple of questions 2.0tsi

Hello all!
New to the rocco scene
Now I have been researching for last couple days via the forum, I have a 2.0 tsi pewter grey rocco on 44k with full service history 10 plate, I have raised concerns/paranoia about this timing chain, now no rattling runs a dream at the moment (touches wood) , for peace of mind I may just get it done anyways, but before I venture futher is there any way to tell if the defective chain has been changed ?

Stage 1 remaps, am I right in saying this can offer better performance aswell as mpg ? Or does it up the power and drink more fuel, I'm getting 30mpg around town atm

Are the petrol model as reliable as the diesel or is that a stupid question, go easy on me I was a french enthusiast before hand haha

i dont understand, do you mean there IS a current problem or do you mean the engine is running absolutely fine and your just imagining a problem that may or may not happen thousands of miles down the line ?

remaps make you more efficient and more power, better throttle response , basically makes the car better in every single way a must have mod :yes:

Hey man,

As states there is NOT A problem atm but from what I have read the 2.0tsi scirocco was prone to a chain defect and they were recalled, with nothing to state mine was done, I may just get it done for peace of mind, according to other threads they can give at any given mileage, I was just checking if there was any way to tell if the defective chain had been replaced.


Ok so the mod looks like it's going to happen then

There is alot of panic about the chain which quick frankly I find baffling. There have been cases where its gone after 20k miles, and in 99% of the time you never ever here about this issue, but due to the sheer cost of when it does go everyone panics.

That said don't think its not something which doesn't sit in the back of my mind as a "will it, won't it" but it all comes down to do you wanna fork out the money to get the tensioners replaced (which isn't cheap) or do you want to stick with originals and be very unlucky for them to go....

It's a toughy but its all down to you

Remap wise - im stage 1 revo and it is by far the best mod I have done. I'd say its more thirsty but purely because my smile and right foot seem to be linked somehow haha

The tensioners "teeth" wear down and when the oil pressure drops off over night, when you start it up in the morning it rattles and them the noise goes away(about 1 second rattle) eventually it will jump a tooth and hit the valves.
I've just had mine changed 2010 2.0 tsi with 28 k on the clock.
Get it done when it's rattling from cold engine start not when it sounds and runs mint !!

Your a star ! That is real low mileage! So I'm assuming you had a duff one and now you've had it changed it should be fine from now on ? I'll keep a liste out for the noise :)

yeah Volkswagen have changed the design of the tensioner so it doesn't wear out prematurely. Now that it's done it won't happen again. Yeah low mileage it was an ex demo car got it with 12 k on the clock good price aswell because I was a technician for VW at the time.
