Bit of help please

Post by Lloydy »

Hi all, just got my first rocco really happy with it but not overly impressed with the head lights, I'm not really mechanically minded haha but I have seen a few hid and xenon kits on eBay that don't look too bad I just don't understand all this canbus stuff (sorry for being abit thick).

Also my car is a 170 gt tdi, what benefits would I gain power and fuel wise if I was to have her remapped ?

Any info much appreciated

Cheers

My issue with hid kits is they are going in a reflector headlight which just causes a big blur of light and can be very dazzling to on coming drivers. I have gone past no end of cars with hids fitted and it has been blinding.

If you ask me get oem xenons retrofitted or don't bother.

As for power increase .
My 170 has been remaped by revo. Power increase to 208 and they say up to 10 mpg increase. So far based on the trip computer I have had about 4-5 increase in mpg so far.

Here's my HID kit I used. Awesome and I don't think HIDs are too bad as long as you power the beam pattern from the required position. Most people align HID kits to the brightest point of the light which then allows the extra light to be too high.

Not the cheapest links just same brands/items I used

You can buy different adapters without the wiring but they require you to cut into the factory wiring which I thought wasn't worth £6 less.

Here's photos of mine.

Those bulbs you've posted initially are just halogen bulbs, they won't make a lot of difference to light output, it'll just change the colour more than anything. If you're going down the HID route I'd go for some 35w H7R bulbs. The H7Rs are meant to be more reflector lens friendly. A lot of the issue with the lots is they aren't aligned when they've been fitted. Don't go for a cheap kit, it'll produce no beam pattern and will just be nasty.
