Scirocco 08/09 and 2010+ question
I'm looking at buying a Scirocco at the moment. I read on the forums here that someone said that there are cosmetic differences between the 08/09 and 2010+ models, i'm struggling to notice any? I think its quite hard when looking at photos and also when they are shot in different angles. Is it something that is noticeable when seen in person or are they only minor differences?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

As far as I'm aware there are no external differences, only the interior.
Different design of steering wheel, white MFD vs red MFD and different climate controls.

Ah great, thanks. Just checked out some pictures, the interior looks like a real improvement. Looks like its worth spending another £1,000!

Re: Scirocco 08/09 and 2010+ question
I disagree.......The differences are negligible, there's not much (if any) beneficial improvement or upgraded extra's, just a slightly different cosmetic look.
I would definitely spend the extra £1000 on getting it mapped (say up to £500), lowered (say up to £300) and a cold air induction kit (£200).
Now your car will be fast, look sweet and sound angry...........that's got to be better than added silver plastic buttons on the steering wheel, white instead of red numbers on the MFD and different buttons on the climate control. The original design isn't that bad and the new look inside will just be a novelty that will soon wear off. Performance, sound and external looks won't though.
Just my opinion with £1000.

Thats pretty convincing mate. I was actually planning on getting a remap, wasnt aware of a cold induction kit though but sounds like something i'd like to invest insciroccorich wrote:I disagree.......The differences are negligible, there's not much (if any) beneficial improvement or upgraded extra's, just a slightly different cosmetic look.

I would rather spend the £1000 extra to have a more modern interior than the older mk5 style golf dash etc.
I think the multi function flat bottom sterling wheel seriously improves the look of the cabin along with the white dash speedo.

Surely you'd want to feel the car in its natural state a bit before a remap?! That's my opinion anyway - the £1000 on interior is worth it, cos these are things you'd start to crave as you go along

Same I wouldn't have gone for one with the old interior.
If I am thinking that then so are other people. So this will hurt the resale value.
I went for a 59 plate. Was one of the first with the new interior I think.

Re: Scirocco 08/09 and 2010+ question
Yeah I can respect peoples opinion about the interior but my opinion was based on the following,
1) When you buy a car, you generally don't immediately think about the resale value or even consider selling it..........Its your new baby!!
2) The difference between an 09 and a 59/10 plate when it comes to condition and reliability, is negligible and normally depends on mileage and how the previous owner has looked after it and serviced it.
3) It wont add £1000 to the resale value and I don't believe the comment about hurting your resale value. It unlikely to hurt the value, the newer interior might just be more of a preference to the buyer when choosing one from another (if their bothered).
The only downside I can see when selling your car, is that people prefer to mod their car themselves by buying a standard car, rather than be put off by someone who maybe has a boy racer approach and modded it to drive it hard.

Re: Scirocco 08/09 and 2010+ question
Maybe the old style interior would appeal to less people therefore hurting tyour chances of selling it by less people being interested in it?
I didn't want an old style interior when I bought mine but it's all personal preference. There's things I wish my car had on it that I'd like to retrofit that I could if had if I bought another but I found the best car for my money at the time. And it wasn't the other side of the galaxy either [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

I'd spend the £1000 on the interior, and look to make the improvements mentioned over time.
I recently bought a 58 plate and wasn't fully aware of the interior differences. The steering wheel looks awfully tacky, in my opinion, that's why I'm currently hunting eBay for a new one!

Thanks everyone for the input! Think i'm going to go for the 2010 model and just wait patiently for the upgrades ;-)
Re: Scirocco 08/09 and 2010+ question
Hmmm..must just be me then, but I always think of the potential resale value of any car i'm about to buy!. Probably the reason I've never bought an Alfa Romeo! hahasciroccorich wrote:Yeah I can respect peoples opinion about the interior but my opinion was based on the following,

Re: Scirocco 08/09 and 2010+ question
When I bought mine (from new in March 2009), I took delivery and then virtually straightaway (about 2 weeks I think) VW announced the updated interior!
I know all manufacturers say design/spec subject to change, but within 2 weeks! I was well annoyed but hey-ho!
So yes - updated interior if you can, apologies for mentioning this minor gripe so many times on the forum!

I was the opposite, on my previous car, I had the choice of the original or the facelift version and went for the original.
That was influenced by the fact that it had leather, sunroof, and a few other extras, I felt these items outweighed the older steering wheel and red display, but it is a matter of personal choice.

I did exactly the same.......Sat nav, leather and parking sensors, it seemed much more desirable than the slightly different dash and steering wheel.ScottC25 wrote:I was the opposite, on my previous car, I had the choice of the original or the facelift version and went for the original.

I actually prefer the old style Mk5 type dash and steering wheel, not sure why but like you said, it's a preference or compromise on the extras you really want for the money you have.

Re: Scirocco 08/09 and 2010+ question
I made sure mine had the new steering wheel dials etc as i did not want the horrible red background, with the mk5 steering wheel!!!!
BUT mine did come with the original climate control (few months between new and old they had this). I have since upgrade this quite easily since.
