Petrol to diesel

Post by noelio »

Hi guys

Apologies if this isn't in the correct forum but i said i would try here.... so im currently driving a 2012 Scirroco petrol 1.4 122 hp. I'm half thinking of changing to a 15 diesel scirooco 2.0 150HP. I just have a couple of questions though.....I'm assuming the Diesel will be more powerful than the petrol is that right? Or am i totally wrong on that as it is a Diesel? Second question I'm mainly a city driver, i drive maybe 10k miles per annum i do long runs on occasions but usually only once a month, the rest is all local type driving - will the diesel have issues with this? I know before when i researched certain make diesels i was advised to keep clear of them on account of the DPF issue many diesels were facing. I guess the reason im looking at the diesel is my local guy has a pre reg model which is about 3k off the list price
Would the diesel also require more servicing and be more noisy than my current model?

Any help would be great ...thanks

Yes a 150 bhp diesel will be more powerful than a 122 bhp petrol. Will have a load more torque esp low down too which is nice. I changed from a Clio RS200 to a TDi 140 Scirocco and I'm really liking the relaxed driving style of the diesel. Overtaking is just so effortless with all that torque.

Others on here will say you don't heed a diesel as you don't do the miles to justify its but it your decision. As for the DPF as long as it gets up to temperature on a regular basis I wouldn't worry too much.

Also upgraded from a 1.4 122 to a 140tdi. Fast up to 60. A little slower up to 100 but once remapped (or get the 170) it'll be even quicker to 60 and excellent pace to 100. Ignore the 0-60 times stated as this is only a marketing strategy to upsell the 170. Both cars are actually quite close 0-60, perhaps 1 second apart, as opposed to the 2 seconds on the official figures.

DPF is a valid worry but if you can introduce 30 minutes of 3,000rpm motorway driving once a week you'll keep on top of it. Regeneration is only attempted when the conditions are right and regenerations need to be for a good amount of time to be complete. 2 minutes of regeneration won't get hot enough to do anything. The process has to start, run, and finish for it to be successful. Exhaust temperatures need to be over 400 degrees for soot breakdown to happen.
