car feels floaty

Post by cavido »

Hi. Recently my rocco started to feel floaty when I'm on a highway or when I drive sporty in curvy roads. It's hard for me to explain because I'm not English but I will try. It seems like the rear of the car floats when I turn the steering wheel to one side and suddenly turn it to go straight. I checked for bad bushings, replaced the front control arms, checked the other suspension pieces and didn't find a bad one. My tires are almost new and I got my direction aligned( don't know if it's the right words to say it). I also got my rear left control arm replaced as I got hit by a car. My car already felt floaty before the hit so it's not that either. The only thing that I didn't roughly inspected was the anti roll bar links and the steering ball joints. Could those cause this problem? Sometimes my car does a click noise when I turn the steering wheel but only in summer when the temperatures are very hot. I really need your help because I'm going to travel 6000km with the car and I don't want to have an accident. If I don't find an answer here, eventually I will go to the mechanic but it's better if I can spare some money. Thank's in advance.

What tires do you have on the car? (dimensions, make and model) And what car are you comparing to?

235/45 R18..pirelli in front and vredestein in rear. I'm not comparing to another car, I just know that it's not normal because it started doing that only a few months ago...

Tyres are the wrong size I think. On 18s it should be 235/40R18 I believe. Doubt that's causing the problem though.

Have you checked the top mounts for the shocks?

Today I checked again all the suspension pieces and it doesn't seem to have a bad one. I also checked the shocks top mounts and they seem good so It's not that either. The shocks are not leaking oil so I think they are good too. I don't know what could cause the problem. What are those sensors that are attached to the control arms?
