Another timing belt query!

Post by mahonyart »

Hi, Ive just purchased a 58reg 2.0l 200ps scirocco. Ive seen numerous posts saying that it has a timing chain not a belt but then other posts saying it does have a belt? Can anyone confirm which is correct as Ive looked on eBay for a timing belt and they do sell one for the 2.0l 200ps

Now Im really confused!!

either way, its done 62000. Should I have the water pump changed?

Your Scirocco is fitted with a cam chain. The confusion comes from the MK5 Golf Gti engine of the same era and power output having a cambelt.

All petrol in the Scirocco apart from the "R" is fitted with the EA888 engine whereas the "R" and the MK5 Golf Gti has the EA113 engine.
