Noob bulb question
Hey guys,
I have just had a bulb go out on my Scirocco (2009) Only had it a couple weeks to still unfamiliar! - It is the one at the front at the bottom, the small light, is that DRL or just a side light?? - I don't know what bulb I need?! If its DRL is that different, as in a unit?
Is it easy to replace myself? (total noob)

Re: Noob bulb question
It's the sidelight bulb and easy to replace yourself.
Have a look at the Roccopedia for the bulb type.

As said it's a sidelight bulb. Easy to change.
bulb is a w5w 501 fitment.

There is a small Torx screw you need to remove on the underneath of the sidelight unitsimon2015uk wrote:I have the bumper fog bit off, do i need any tools or anything to pull out the sidelight? It wont budge..

Re: Noob bulb question
You don't need to take the sidelight unit out to change the bulb. Put your hand through the gap by the fog light and upwards to behind the sidelight. The bulb and it's holder will just pull out

Dead easy to change. You just need to take off the fog light cover and then use a T20 screwdriver to unscrew the one screw under the side light and it will just pop off! Pull the sidelight off being careful the seal don't come off too and then just replace the bulb by pulling it out of the socket! The bulb is a w5w 501 filament

Re: Noob bulb question
Thanks for your info. Very useful.
I followed the VW manual and got the bulb changed easily along with your info. and a YouTube help video.
I waited until the weather warmed up a little - worried that the plastic would be brittle.
Taking hold of the fins and popping their clips off first then easing the whole thing toward the outside of the car worked well.
When trying to access the bulb I found a rubber U bend vent. Tug this off then the bulb can be held more easily.
Pull the old bulb out and replace with the new one.
Reverse the process adding the rubber U bend on to it's spigot.
I wiped all of the clips with a little WD 40 and it went back easily.
Sussed.
