What's that box in the boot?

Post by Billc »

Looking to change my Roc for a newer one and searching the usual sites I keep seeing pictures of Rocs which have a box strapped to the RHS of the boot. What is it?

The link below has a picture with one, they're always in the same place and always the same box. This leads me to believe that this could be a classic Stupid Question but I've searched and searched for the answer with no result!

TIA!

Strange. Might be a coolbox or a toolkit but I can't see anything in the accessories brochure that looks similar.

It doesn't seem to be model specific BUT it's always the same box in the same place! If it was your own coolbox or toolkit you'd remove it before sale and these have all been dealer cars. Here's another in an R, it's picture No. 20 in the gallery. Same box, same place, secured in the same way

Of all the Rocs I've look at in the last few months (a lot) I've seen this box in enough of them to make me wonder about it!

Don't flame me if I'm wrong, but I think it's for Dynaudio?

I'm not 100% sure, but my hunch is it's for the tools that would normally stored in the spare wheel – if you spec Dynaudio the sub-woofer is inside the spare wheel, meaning the tools need to be stored somewhere else?

Yes but you have the pre facelift model.
as said above it could be only on the new facelift model with dynaudio

Very true. If it is the bass box for the Dynaudio then it's a poor design and an obvious afrer thought. At least on the Golf MK7 they located it out the way in the spare wheel well.

I looked at a 15 plate today. It had the box in the boot. I asked the sales guy what it was. He thought it was the inflation kit for the tyres but we lifted the boot floor and it had a spare. It was the jack and brace etc. As mentioned above the car had the Dynaudio option.

If that's correct then it's very badly designed.

Well well well, thank you for solving that one for me. I had a suspicion it may be something to do with Dynaudio but since some I'd seen with the box didn't list it as one of the options I couldn't be sure. It's certainly a poor arrangement, rather cobbled together, but I assume that there has been some change in the way the Dynaudio sub is installed? You'd like to think that there must be some improvement in the installation which has forced them into this strange solution

Anyway, I'm off to see a Roc this week which doesn't list Dynaudio but does have the box so maybe I now know something about the car that the dealer doesn't. Always useful :)

Thx for the help folks.

Keep us informed of your findings.

I've specced Dynaudio so am wondering whether to expect the box in the boot!

Wouldn't surprise me. The one I looked at had Dynaudio, Bi-xenons and sat-nav. None of which were mentioned on the advert. Also had 2k less miles than advertised.

Glad that's one option I didn't pick on my new car, looks crap you think they could have trimmed it in something like the carpet material so it blends in a bit.
