Recaro Seats!

Post by Din »

Ive got got a new (To me) R!

Just to add - its amazing.

However it has the recaro seats, I have a question about them...

When you pull the handle to flip the seat forward as if you were getting in the back, the back of the seat flips forward, however the whole seat then doesn't slide forward like it would in any normal 2dr car.

I took it in to my local VW dealership and they assured me this was the functionality of the recaro seats and nothing was broken.

Can anyone confirm?

I had Recaros in my MK5 R32 and that's how they operate
There is no link between the tilt mechanism and the slide mechanism.

I have the same seats and it does suck, making it very hard for adults to get in the back. It's still worth it because I love them and the front is all that matters. :D

Am I right in thinking with these seats you lose the side impact seat airbags? I know the side curtain is still there.

That's a good point and I'm not sure. Does it say side air bags anywhere because I can check?

Still wouldn't have changed my mind on getting them.

If it has an airbag in the seat it will have a small label sown into the seam on the outside of the seat

Correct. Side impact air bags don't come with Recaros. I'd have to agree with postings above the Recaros are great aesthetically but less than practical. Even putting a coat or bag in the back is a pain.

There's a handle at the front to slide them forward then you can tilt forwards afterwards. Not quite as simple as tilt and slide in one but hardly rocket science.

There is but it's still a pain as the tilt only moves them forward a small amount because the side bolsters stop the seat folding much. If you have kids it's always an issue stopping them drag their belongings against the gloss black backs.

I'd still recommend them though and as a last resort I could always sell the kids :D

Well yes its hardly rocket science I agree. However still a pain. And wasn't sure if this was the expected functionality.
