2.0 TSI GT Failed Injector 3 days out of warranty - £750!!!!

Post by rgp »

Hi Guys

Made the decision to jump ship from BMW to a Rocco last year, have been loving the car and with a move out of London to the countryside imminent was really looking forward to some spirited driving!!!

Unfortunately on a return to London last Wednesday after a drive back from somerset the car started juddering and pumping out smoke on the dual carriageway. I was luckily by an exit so got off and parked up waiting for the AA....

Car was recovered to Ridgeway in Reading who have just diagnosed a faulty injector and I now have a bill for £750.

The car was 3 days out of VW used approved warranty, has done 25k miles (2010 car, so ~6k per year), full VW SH, and had been in for a new manifold 6 weeks ago under warranty (at VW Finchley road).

VW are refusing any goodwill at this point (Although I am on twitter trying to budge them) but if none is given, with the cost of a VW warranty (which I now consider essential!) I am looking at a £1k+ bill

Despite loving the car this is really making me consider just Pxing the car for a non VAG given VWs flat refusal to budge on goodwill - a few hundred £ would have made a big difference here.

Couple of questions:

- I see a few threads on manifolds and injector failures, could the change of manifold have impacted the injectors? I know new Injector seals were fitted...
- Any advice on how to push for something goodwill wise from VW?

Thanks!

You have had bad luck and I believe an extended warranty is a 'no brainer'. I paid £260 (with a £100 excess) for an annual VW Comprehensive Warranty to avoid just the sort of bill you are facing for repairs.
These days you cannot depend on the manufacturer offering a 'goodwill' contribution.

I had my intake manifold fail out of warranty, VW replaced the part foc & I paid the labour.

It's worth asking customer service for goodwill, although you'll need full VW service history to get it.

Agreed a no-brainer,sadly just to much else going on to get round to sorting - to be honest would have done it within the week so still feel a bit hard done by 3 days out of warranty!

VW have now confirmed a couple of hundred pounds contribution after a few twitter posts - definitely the way to go for anyone else in a similar situation - much faster response from their social media team, and seem a bit more with it as well...
