Re: Lukes R, Now stage 2+
Been a bit quiet on the mod front lately due to work but that gave me time to save the pennies. And money burns a whole in my pocket so 1st up is something i have been wanting to do for ages. I finally got round to having my steering wheel re-trimmed. i was getting silly quotes from places until i stumbled upon Royal steering wheels. He is based in Aylesbury and does the work from home. his quote was far cheaper at £150 for a full re-trim. That included a loan steering wheel and fitting. The quality is spot on. And only took a week.
Next was a much needed addition to the brakes. They look so bare before. These totally transformed the brakes. Massive thanks to mark for these
And my most recent purchase has been the Dectane rear lights. I have been on the fence about these for a while. But decided to take the plunge and just do it.
A colour comparison between my R lights and the Dectanes. I went for the Red smoked version
They are quite dark. But really do go with the black paint
Now i did have a little issue with these. The right hand fog light wouldn't go off. I tried just unplugging it but that threw up a check light warning on the dash. And couldn't put up with that. So in the end i plugged it back in but wrapped it up the bulb in strips of a black bin bag. So now you cant see it on at all. And no warning lights. But do lose the fog light. Im not fussed about that.
Next up within a week or so (hopfully) i have an intercooler going on and have a stage 2 DSG remap put on.

The wraped steering wheel is absolutely stunning!!
Regarding dectanes, are they a perfect fit? Was reading on another topic that they are smaller than the original ones.

Steering wheel is lovely! A lad on another forum I'm on does re-trims for a great price! Lead time is longer than 1 week though! Do Royals let you pick material and the colour of the Stitching etc?Luke.08 wrote:Been a bit quiet on the mod front lately due to work but that gave me time to save the pennies. Really liking the work done on the steering wheel
Any reason why you never went fully floating on the discs given the size?

I didnt go full floating as i couldnt justify the extra 250 quid. No point as im not tracking the car every other weekend. The stopping power is immense

Re: Lukes R, Now stage 2+
Get where you are coming from on the discs, down side of fully floating is they are a tad noisy as well after a work out
Amazing what a difference multipot callipers make to these cars and the unsprung weight savings

Re: Lukes R, Now stage 2+
Look great Luke. What size rotors did you get in the end? I see they do discs over 400mm for 20 inch wheels as well.
Keep us updated on what you think of quality and performance once you have driven for a while. I was thinking of VWR big brake kit but still open to options as they are nearly £4k fitted.

I have the APracing 330mms with fredo ds2500 pads with 19s and coukd not fault the performance, the only problem is when you go in for some new pads and discs best part of a grand leaves your wallet!
