I think you need to use the VW ipod cable for it to work, are you using that or are you using your ipod usb cable and plugging it into the USB Media Cable?

I had to enable the media ports, as you can switch them on and off, also not sure if you guys are aware but western digital do some rather nice portable hard drives called passports, I have a 120GB one, and you just load that up with music seperating artists in folders and albums under that and it works exactly the same as the Ipod using the USB lead. Seeing as you cant use the Ipod video features, or use the album artwork, I am currently setting my passport up with everything music wise only got 80gb worth of music so far!! it also seems to be quicker than the ipod for browsing etc

Cool, thanks for that, wouldn't have thought about trying it, just didn't think it would power the device, I know it worked fine with my 4GB USB stick.

Do you off hand whether it supports NTFS formatted HDD or will it have to be in FAT32 for it to recognise?

Mine was formated to fat 32, also I you can adjust the power the USB lead supplies in the options you need to put that to full :)

Defo worth it :)

OK so I got my spare WD Passport (250GB) it already has my music collection on it as I have it connected to my PS3 and for that to see it, it had to be FAT32.

I plugged it in the USB cable in the car, the light came on and it powered the HDD, usually when there isn't enough power you can hear the disk spinning, starting, starting starting etc In the car I don't have that issue, but nothing shows up on the screen.

Would you mind telling me where the power setting is for that? Is that the 1.7V option in AUX? I changed that to the other two and still nothing? The drive makes a noise as if its being accessed but again nothing appears on the screen.

It would be amazing to get this working as I was hoping to make use of my old 40GB iPod, but that didn't work with the iPod cable, I know the cable and port works in my car as my iPhone works perfectly with it, charges and the few songs on it appear on the screen.

Would really appreciate your help with this.

Thanks man

*Edit - I got it working mate, I moved the music closer to the top level and it worked plus I had some exe files at the top level, after removing those it fixed the issue and now the HDD can be used as music storage, glad I don't need to buy another iPod now :D

Would never have thought my WD would work, thanks again!

Might be worth adding some of that info to the wiki page for the ipod connectivity if you get the chance.

Anyone have problems getting an iPod nano to work? My mini works fine - but the Nanos (8G) is really tempremental.

Mind you seems to me there's a lot of hard disc space looking to be used

Also... I didn't get a USB lead with my Roccy - are they standard? I figured I could load the HDD with MP3s via a big USB memory stick...
