Cheers Ian. I'll just have to wait and see then, I was hoping it might have been sooner.

If only I was rich enough to have a new car every year and get that 'can't wait, better than Xmas and birthday rolled into one' feeling. :D

have had the new GT since Friday and i'm loving it.

@Ben
rising blue is still an option on the VW site and my dealer never mentioned to me about a slight change of colour to rising blue. I would ask for an example of this "Special Edition" colour so you can A/B it.

Just been told mine is built and waiting for shipping

There are some links in the FAQ about working out which boat your car will be on but it seems I don't have access to them. Anyone know what I need to do?

So...
I placed my order on June 1st. Signed up to the tracker and two weeks later was given a build week of 29 (13th July).

This morning I get an email update saying it's now jumped from stage 3 to stage 5 – BUILT awaiting transit!
Does this seem very likely, or is it possibly a glitch with the tracker?
From 4 weeks of ordering to actually being built and out the factory? Hmmm :?

I was supposed to be waiting for a September (65) registration, so this all seems very quick. But if this is not a mistake it will likely be with the dealer at the beginning of August! So either pick it up early, or let it sit at the dealers for 4 weeks.

Thoughts?

I believe I ordered mine around the 29th of May and straight away had a confirmed build week of 29th June. Seems that's the lead time at the minute. I expect you'll have the choice you described around the plate :/

Hi, that seems very quick I ordered mine on the 18 Apr and had a build week of 15 June, cars now somewhere in transit. Your best bet is ring VW customer service with your order number. I was also tempted to wait until September but I decided against it, registration changes are not like they used to be when it was once a year when I was younger, and 65 wont mean much to the average person.

The links are broken for me too. Don't know why. 3 or 4 years ago the forum had someone who could tell you what boat was going to be used for what car, this info is no longer available so perhaps that's why the links have been taken down.

But you can still get interesting info by knowing when your car was built from the tracker, having an informed view on how long it takes to get from factory to dock and seeing what boat is where. This is the website for tracing where the boats are at any time here.

You need to watch the port in Portugal where they are loaded, Setubal just south of Lisbon. Then, if you're in UK, track the boats to a port in UK where they are unloaded for onward delivery to dealers by road. For dealers in southern UK it's generally Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey in the Thames estuary. Other ports used are I think Grimsby, somewhere in Scotland and Dublin for Ireland.

Google satellite maps will show you views of Setubal with thousands of cars lined up waiting for a boat and Sheerness where they are stored after unloading. Not useful in real time for tracking your car as they're months / years out of date but you can see where in the port the cars are stored.

If you trawl thro the emails you may find the names of some of the usual suspects for boats used. Two I'm aware of are Emden and African Highway.

The above website shows Emden is a dedicated VAG car transporter and when I wrote this has just left Dublin and is heading for Santander. Is that where Seats are loaded? African Highway spookily enough is in the port of Emden in Holland.

If this email disappears you know why you can't read previous threads about boats........

Thanks for your responses.

Having searched a couple of other threads, it seems the tracker can jump from stage 3 to stage 5 without warning. But as my confirmed build week was not until the middle of July, it looks like it's jumped the queue for whatever reason... Most people would be happy for the car to be built so quickly, but as I'm waiting till September it makes no difference to me.

I know the new plate won't mean much to the average Joe, as you say, but for the sake of 3 or 4 weeks I might as well wait. The dealer even suggested it when ordering.

I'll wait a few days to see if the dealer gets in touch, but looks like it's most likely waiting to be shipped... August is going to be extra long, knowing the car will be sat 3 miles down the road! :eyepop:
