Will I Run Out Of Petrol?????
This is my situation, I'm at work with no cash or card, I finish at 10pm tonight and my gauge is showing the needle in the middle of the red area, range was showing 20 miles when I parked up. My trip is 10 miles to get home, so will I make it? I thought I came out this morning with my wallet but on arriving at work I realised I hadn't. 2.0 TSi engine.

Depends on driving style, route, traffic etc.......
I think if mine were middle id be pushing it if the route was clear flat, no stopping for lights traffic and drove sensibly (bit obvious i know haha)

Sounds like you probably will make it, especially if the range had been saying 20 miles.
When you get back, hide a £10 or £20 note in the car somewhere. Next time you forget your wallet, you can use your emergency note.

Ha ha! Don't do what my colleague did, and sell the car with the note still tucked in the back of the manual. Nice surprise for the next person that's trying to change a lightbulb/fuse!

Re: Will I Run Out Of Petrol?????
I mate at work slipped me a tenner, so nipped out of work and topped it up! My drive home is quite hilly and needs some heavy ecceleration on the motorway slip roads as they are quite steep. Has anyone else noticed how fast the needle drops when it gets to the last quarter of a tank?

Re: Will I Run Out Of Petrol?????
Ha was just going to say borrow some cash!
Ha i never trust that remaining miles anyway.
I have pulled up at work for it to say bing 30 miles remaining.
Got back in the car after work and it gone bing 8 miles remaining.... Must have been thirsty to drink 22 miles of fuel with the engine off
Does seem to drop quickly in the red for me. But fingers crossed have never run out yet!

Re: Will I Run Out Of Petrol?????
I noticed the same thing in my mk4 golf. Apparently it's because of the shape of the fuel tank and the fact that the bottom "half" is actually smaller so it runs down a lot quicker than the top half.
ps, first post!

And VW have probably programmed the software to scare us all, rather than being sued for "Your car said I had 100 miles of fuel remaining and I ran out after 89. You owe me for a hotel / five course meal / distress etc etc"
If you do play the "fuel remaining game", you'll see that the forecast distance plummets disproportionately to the mileage driven.
Yes, it wouldn't surprise me if the shape of the tank and whether you park pointing uphill / downhill makes a difference.
A tenner tucker in the sunglasses cubbyhole will do the trick every time.

Re: Will I Run Out Of Petrol?????
I once did >30 miles with the display saying "0" in a Passat 1.8T. Middle of nowhere, hadn't been watching the range, no petrol station for 30-odd miles so I just went for it, very very carefully. I managed to get 61L into a 60L tank so I was on less than fumes.
