Paint Flaw / Damage

Post by Simebaby »

Hi All
Just noticed a flaw / damage in the paint on my roof - I've attached a picture. If you run your finger over it you can feel it's rougher, so guessing the laquer has gone. No idea what could have caused this unless it was some bird muck I missed that's eaten into the paint? I'm guessing 'cause of the size (big bit is around 2cm at widest) and location (a good 10cm from the edge of the roof) I'll need a respray. Any advice would be appreciated, and if anyone has used a bodyshop in Yorkshire region with good results that would be useful.
Cheers
Si

Looks like something on the paint. When you feel it does it feel like it's proud of the paint or like a stone chip is it into and below the paint?

From that pic it looks very like glue residue. Have you tried a glue remover or polish on it to see if it helps?

I had a bit if lacquer failure on my Focus ST a few years ago caused by a stone chip. On that you could catch the edge of the lacquer with your nail but once the failed lacquer was removed (by scratching at it until all the failed stuff as off the car, not recommended though) the paint below was perfect bar the stone chip.

Looks like some form of contaminant to me, rather than lacquer damage.. Have you tried claying the area to see if it will remove it. Also, tar and glue remover as mentioned above.
