Throttle delay
Hi I'm just wondering if it is normal for me to experience a delay when I press the accelerator before the power comes. It is only a very small delay, maybe a third of a second or less but I definitely notice it, especially when at low speeds. This is on a 200PS TSI.
If this is normal can I do anything to reduce the delay?
I am used to instant power delivery in my mk2 golf gti as the throttle cable is literally connected to the engine rather than going through a series of electronic wizardry and so I might notice this more than someone who is used to driving newer cars.
Any advice much appreciated.
Cheers
Matt

Re: Throttle delay
I get this exact thing on my 2.0tsi 200PS!
Sometimes seems worse then other times!
Can be quite annoying! Means I push the accelerator a bit further as nothing is happening then I have the pedal down to far and its catches up and too much power comes!

Re: Throttle delay
Combination of Drive by Wire throttle and turbo lag I would assume. Even a small turbo has some lag and is not going to give the instant response of a N/A car.
Also, when you push the throttle pedal it puts a demand signal into ECU and the ECU decides the correct position for throttle body based on various parameters. Not the same as having a cable directly connecting the pedal to the throttle body.
Mapping can help to some extent.

Re: Throttle delay
Thanks for your replies, I'm glad it's not just me!
I guess for now I will have to adjust my driving style to suit, I may also look into mapping but I'm not overly keen on doing so.
Many thanks

Re: Throttle delay
A remap will certainly increase throttle response, it's the best thing I've done on mine, it's awesome now :-)matty1664 wrote:Thanks for your replies, I'm glad it's not just me!

Cheers Shak, good to know! I bet it goes quick after a remap I'm pretty much used to the power now and feel like it needs a bit more poke.

Stick with either revo or apr, both currently have sales on at the moment as far as I'm aware of :-)

Re: Throttle delay
Did your insurance rise much after the remap?
Re: Throttle delay
All depends on your age etc mate for example im 18 and it would put mine up a few hundred but my dad it only put up £28..selleym wrote:Did your insurance rise much after the remap?
So would vary on factors of your insurance no claims and age i'd have thought

Re: Throttle delay
Glad there are already experiencing this as I've come from NA 4.5ltr V8 to a 2.0ltr turbo petrol ..
Had worked it out to just be turbo lag (didn't know it was fly by wire throttle) so I was thinking would a new map help and it seems so.
I was already thinking about the Revo stage 1 so what maps did you put on?

Re: Throttle delay
You tried the throttle body alignment trick with your foot on the pedal and the engine off? Mine seems to be a pretty instant pick up on the throttle pedal and no noticeable delay. Can post the trick instructions if you are not aware

Re: Throttle delay
Try fitting a sprint booster or pedal box this sorts out all your problems and you can adjust your throttle response to how you like it
I have one fitted it's an amazing bit of kit

Re: Throttle delay
Throttle Body Alignment:
put the key and put it into the position just before the starter turns (do not start the car) push the gas peddle all the way wait 3 seconds and turn the key all the way back but do not take it out, now release the gas peddle and wait 2 minutes! remove key than put it back in and start the car! you should notice a better response while pressing the gas do this once every few weeks!

Re: Throttle delay
Its from an Audi forum that I was looking at for my mrs' A1 but apparently works over all Audi / VW formats. Be interesting to see people comments wants they have tried it. Cant say I felt a difference but my pickup was instant in the first place
