Coil packs again

My scirocco is really beginning to pee me off, again today the car started spluttering and losing power, followed by the engine management light then the epc light, called the RAC and after waiting 90 mins it was diagnosed as misfire cylinders 1 and 3, two coil packs replaced (RAC patrols carry spares)one of which was previously replaced by the RAC feb 2014 so was just out of the 12 month warranty,in total I have replaced four seperate packs,getting passed a joke.

What could be causing these failures?

Are they being replaced with OEM Bosch coilpacks or the cheaper Beru ones? Although more expensive, OEM are better quality and have a 2 year warranty.

I would suggest anyone with a petrol VAG car, buy a couple of OEM coilpacks and keep them in the car as spares as they are almost becoming a consumable.

Just had a look through your old posts and seen you have. Remapped 2.0 tsis are prone to coilpack failures. Have been through two myself before decided to upgrade them all.

You should be alright now you have been through four

Yes, I have it remapped stage 1 Bluefin.

Unsure, the RAC patrol says they are genuine, but only give a 12 month warranty on any parts they fit.

Mine did this till i upgraded to the r8 ones iv not killed any since i replaced them keep one of the working old ones in the boot as a aspare. they were quite abit heavier and seemed to have some vents on the metal part i baught them from awesome gti aproximatly 90 for all 4

And now after a 20mile motorway drive, the car is missing slightly on revs on tick over at about 3rpm

Two lights came up on my dash the other day, EPC and the Cat light, rang up VW and told them and they said because i turned the engine off and back on that the codes would of been reset so they wouldn't be able to take it in to have a look at . . . Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again and it was just a one time thing, as i read on the internet its a sign that my coil pack could be failing, if it is then hopefully it will be covered under my one year warranty?

Without a doubt it will happen again, if its flagged up once, it must have been faulty, your dealer response seems a bit unhelpful, they could still check the coil pack resistance with out fault codes.As far as I know turning the engine off does not remove the fault codes, only the warning lights.

As said above, switching off and on the engine does not clear the fault codes. Would kind of defeat their purpose if that was the case. Most coipack faults show up as " intermittent misfires" .

Are the R8 coil packs different to the RS4 ones?
