Hello,
First post - hope its in the right place....
I recently became the owner of 2.0 Tsi rising blue roc. Came over to the dark side from 3 golf Gtis and starting to feel the love
Having had a cursory search before buying the car, I now realise that my options for a roof rack are fairly limited. Having spoke to Thule, I was told that they pulled the previous model as they weren't happy with the fit so my preferred option is out. I had a look at the La Alpina one (£95 on Micksgarage) but it doesn't look that solid to me. Having spoken to my local Thule specialist he advised me 'If Thule cant make one to fit well then I would be surprised if La Alipna could for less than £100' - which does seem logical to me. It would appear that my only other option is the stealers who are asking for £314
I have just taken delivery of my kayak this week and now I am stuck. Does anybody have experience with any of the above options? or can you recommend anywhere else? I had a search on here but only found some older (mixed) reviews about the La Alpina one so any more info / links / advice would be much appreciated
Thanks
Tom

Re: Which roof rack do I buy?
I bought some genuine VW roof bars off ebay - I think i paid around £125 .
I know that they're expensive compared to everyone else - but they work brilliantly , fit perfectly - and don't damage my pride & joy

I bought the La Alpina bars from Micks garage - if you search the threads you'll find the full report
The bars take my Pyranha Fusion easily with the Thule kayak carrier "J" bars but they're a bugger to fit & I don't leave them on all the time just in case they damage the paint

Re: Which roof rack do I buy?
I bought genuine VW 6 years ago for my first Scirocco ago and they fell apart. They were replaced as a warranty claim and I hadn't got 5 miles from the garage before the new ones started to fall apart.
The plastic trim on the underside of the bars were only stuck on with double sided tape and blow off in the wind.
I tried talking to VW about it but they were not interested and just referred me back to the dealer. The bits of trim are available as a spare part .... not in the UK only in Germany.
So now I have roof bars that whistle with the wind ... at least it covers the rattles and noise of the crap build quality of my latest face lift model.
