Re: Scirocco R
As I said before, if the car is front wheel drive surely it doesn't have a rear axle? I think it uses the rear suspension from a Passat but there will be no axle, just hubs. Also, the Passat CC is available with 4wd so the suspension setup is capable of accommodating a rear axle and therefore 4wd, and seeing as the floorpan is shared with the Golf which is also available with 4wd it should just be a case of moving anything that's in the way (exhaust, fuel tank etc)
Re: Scirocco R
Flippin hell, an 'axle' is a generic car term that refers to a pair of wheels. . . . It doesnt mean its actuallt a fixed axle. . . . .
The floor pan has naff all to do with the 4wd, the rear subframes are the same generic parts used all over the range, a large percentage of the existing suspension components are the same as the 4wd setup as they are cost cutting by reducing bespoke parts, all you'd need to do is throw a suitable boot floor panel in, fuel tank, rear 4wd subframe, hubs, shafts, diff, propshaft with apprpriate bearing hangers, and fit a 4wd gearbox, the exhaust may o may not need to be changed dependign what you run. Then you'd have to integrate the haldex electronics with the existing system. It is all entirely possible.
VW build 4wd version of cars we dont get in the uk and have done for a number of years. You can buy a 4wd MK1 leon 2.8 24v on the continent for example. So a 4wd scirocco is easy on the current platform.

axle is also refered to as subframe, so yes it does have a rear axle.true wrote:As I said before, if the car is front wheel drive surely it doesn't have a rear axle?

Re: Scirocco R
looks like a Roc with a cheap body kit attached, looks nasty and a good re map will get the extra power so where's the incentive to buy? Once again VW tempt us with a motor show preview and then don't deliver!!!
Re: Scirocco R
Where's the incentive to buy you say? How about AWD (which hasn't been confirmed yet, but many people are expecting that VW will go that route)?veeedubba wrote:looks like a Roc with a cheap body kit attached, looks nasty and a good re map will get the extra power so where's the incentive to buy? Let's just wait till VW releases a detailed public announcement concerning the Scirocco R20T, before we jump to any conclusions.

Thanks for the clarification chaps! I was thinking of an axle in the same way as a drive shaftryancooke wrote:Andy-GTI wrote:Flippin hell, an 'axle' is a generic car term that refers to a pair of wheels. . . . Personally I don't think that's the final look of the car - that body kit is already available anyway. I'm hoping it would come with the bigger turbo from the S3 too (K04 vs K03s?)veeedubba wrote:looks like a Roc with a cheap body kit attached, looks nasty and a good re map will get the extra power so where's the incentive to buy?
