Automatic Wipers - Relay??

Post by steview »

The automatic wipers on my Scirocco are rubbish, they either wipe too fast and smear the screen in moderate rain or not often enough. Recently they've started doing a double wipe when it's raining lightly which does my head in.

I've been looking to see if it's possible to disable the rain sensor and just have normal intermittent wipers with a delay adjust on the stalk instead of sensitivity. It seems on some slightly older Golfs (mk4) this could be done by removing the wiper relay and fitting one from a non auto wiper car, does anyone know if the Scirocco has a wiper relay or if its all done through controllers? or any other way of doing it?

Was the rain sensing wipers an option or standard on all Sciroccos?

Thanks!

The rain sensor is standard on rocs. You can alter the sensitivity of the sensor using VCDS for lights so might also be possible for wipers. Not sure if they are linked together?

Thanks Salsajoe. If I can't disable the auto wipers then I will try adjusting the sensitivity and see how I get on. I don't ever use the auto setting for the lights either, two things I think aren't worth having in my opinion.

There is possibility in VAG to set the wipers on ''automatic mode'' or ''normal mode'' I am pretty sure I spot it somewhere, just can't remember in which section now, hopefully during weekend I will plug my car and I will let you know ;) I was thinking about some % correction on them, but when I compare to other cars they works quite well.

I finally managed to disable the rain sensor using VCDS without affecting the light sensor, if anyone wants to do the same I'll post how to do it

V5pdt - open controller 9, select the drop down box then select option 2. Select coding helper then tick the box "rain sensor inactive" now your wipers work intermittently and the time delay can be adjusted using the switch on the stalk. So glad I found this out, the automatic wipers were driving me crazy, they don't work!
