Before & after sideskirts

Post by mrbailey »

I am getting my door bump strips (rub strips I think they are also called) colour coded rather than black. I was also considering having some side skirts fit at the same time.....I wondered of anybody had before & after pictures of side skirts fit to the car to help me make my mind up??
Be interesting to see the difference they made
Cheers

Proper side skirts come with a section that replaces the "bump strips" so you won't need to get them smoothed and painted. I think some of the ebay sets don't but the decent quality ones do and so do the genuine ones.

Thinking of these myself, did you fit yourself or bodyshop?? I dont know if to have them painted and fit myself or just give the lot to bodyshop i used to work for.

Am i right in thinking the rear section of skirts is just sticky taped on??
Theres no such thing as "grey area" im just plain and simple "black & white"

The tape is terrible, I ended up removing them and tiger sealing them on. The lad who fit them did say he thought the tape wouldn't hold them on.

Appreciate the information & pics guys
I was thinking to keep the bump/rub strips AND putting skirts on.....I think this has swayed me to get the R skirts instead :-)

I ordered a set of these and they arrived today.

If you don't mind me asking what did you both pay to have them painted?

Did you require any additional bits to fit them, or did you just bond them using tiger seal?

Are the side skirts lower than the standard set up? I ask as I'm on coils and occasionally scrub my jack points. This doesn't bother me, but it would if the ground hit the skirts.
Are the jacking points still lower than the skirt, once fitted?

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I got a friend to paint and fit them for me for £100 so I couldn't give you an exact amount on painting and fitting as I got mates rates. You'll need to go to vw parts dept and order 1K0 853 493 (adaptor) x 8
N911 080 01 (hexagon socket oval head panel bolt (combi) x 8 of those as well. The skirts do come with adapters which are very poor quality so I got the proper vw ones which are miles better extra £30 though
