Cloth seat replacement

Post by Simon92 »

Hi guys,

I've not even bought my Scirocco yet but I have a question - a question that may well be daft but I am none the wiser to due to the fact I do not actually own one yet!

Is it be possible/relatively easy to buy a Scirocco with cloth seats and swap them for leather seats purchased separately? Has anyone done this? Heated leather seats are a definite for me and I was simply wondering if it would be possible to buy a second hand car that was right in every other way before upgrading the seats myself. Would the heated element work?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

As long as the car had the Winter Pack option so the cloth seats were heated and thus the controls and wiring in place to support the heating elements. The door trims, rear trim and armrest would also need changed to leather to complete the job.

Personally, I would wait until a car with leather and the right spec. came on the market.

I agree with Cuprabob that it's best to wait for a leather model.

I have done this. Its relatively easy to take the seats out and replace but requires you too take the rear cards out to get to bolts. I also had to replace the cards with the leather inserts. Also need to be careful around the air bag sensor.

I bought the new climate control with heating elements ready to install - and it was at this point i realised i prefered the cloth seats and sold the lot  :shake:

None the less its easy enough to do, just time consuming but I learned that next time I will not make drunken late night ebay bids on leather seats, and will buy a car with leather if i want leather haha.

It's absolutely killing me that I'm able to buy one now but I am so picky that I can't decide. Good to hear that it can be done, so thank you, but realistically I will just have to wait i think and hope the right one will turn up soon!
