Scirocco R - Admiral Insurance Policy - CHECK!

Post by AshleyHerbert »

Hi all,

Just an FYI... I just checked my policy documents online and they had my Scirocco R listed as a "TFSI GT 2.0".
I phoned them and they tried to charge me an extra £190 due to the specification change, fee was wavered after a heated conversation.

All the details where confirmed under the phone when I first purchased the insurance.

I suggest checking your policy documents to ensure you're insured under the proper model!

If this is the wrong section I apologise, i wasn't too sure where to post it!

The odd thing is the R is really a TSFI and not the new TSI. The TSFI was classed as the 113 engine and not the 888 in the new Golf. Both Scirocco models now badged TSI so just as well you noticed in case there was an issue after an accident. Not that your going to have one :)

I guess as long as their docs state a 265hp R model you will be ok.

Yeah my heart raced when I noticed it.. they've changed it now and it's showing as "Scirocco r (265)". I haven't been pulled in the car yet so it must be flagging up on the systems OK as it's insured under the REG.

Thought I'd put this out there just encase anyone else has the same.. thanks for the extra info buddy :)

I had a similar issue with my insurance.
A lot of 2.0 tdi 170 spec rocs was registered as semi auto but in fact are manual. Mine was one of them. So when I typed in my reg online it came up automatic but mines a manual. Even the log book states semi auto. So I had to type the spec in manually .

Very interesting.. I wonder why!

When they tried to charge me an extra £190 due to the spec change I wasn't happy.. in the end I ended up paying something like £6.50. It wasn't worth the hassle and I didn't want to upset the young girl on the phone on a Friday as she was actually quite nice!

as long as you confirm details on phone when purchasing the policy, you are covered as long as you have stated the correct vehicle (R) - in event of a claim/query FCA will have your back with call recording etc. Always best to check policy wordings though, and make sure you have correct cover and no nasty small print (i.e hefty excesses that are agreed online or people not knowing total excess payable) - always good practice to read and query documents if there are any issues/concerns especially with these enthusiast cars.
