2.0TSi vs R real world fuel economy
2.0TSi vs R real world fuel economy
Hello All,
I have started looking for a scirocco. Currently I am thinking of the 2.0 TSi but also see some R's that are in the price range I was looking at. I know it is very difficult to achieve VW's figures for av. mpg, so what is the real world experience of MPG difference between the 2.0 TSi and R? Especially with a reasonable amount of motorway miles?
Thanks..

With an R you're looking at 25-30mpg,on mway you might get 35,i don't

Thanks Luc... just what I wanted to know...
Looking on Honest John 2.0 Tsi real mpg is 32.2.. so it looks to be 10-20% better mpg.. than the R..

When I had my 2.0 tsi, I covered 19K and averaged 29.5mpg, my car was running APR stage 2 tho. :-)

I went from a 2.0tsi to an R and I have noticed nearly a 10 mpg drop.

Re: 2.0TSi vs R real world fuel economy
Someone at my work has an R and used to have a TSI and said they went from spending £34 a week on average to £40. That's 15% difference, but in real terms it is £6 x 52 weeks (£312 a year). Personally £500 - £750 would be worth it to drive a much better car. I have wasted as much on a long weekend away when the weather was crap or a few nights on the beer.
The other thing to consider is modifying reduces mpg so no point having a TSI and doing mods that reduce the mpg to as low or lower than a standard R.

From memory the 10% - 15% figure seemed right as you also have to factor the R needs a diet of super unleaded, the TSI runs on normal juice unless mapped
Economy wise the mapped car in day to day driving was better on juice until you hoofed it, my Stage 2 Rocco TSI was remarkably frugal
Key difference is you need to rev the R more to get the post of it due to the larger turbo and peak power being higher up the rev range

This is a useful thread. I'm trying to decide between a tsi or a golf gti at the moment. Want an R but I need some fuel economy
