Have you seen the performance figures put out by the oil burners these days?
I bet the Darkside boys have shocked a few petrol heads, especially the R wannby TSi drivers.
It's just a trim thing like the M or AMG badges, so everyone does it. Personally I only bought a Scirocco due to the fact they had diesels which looked far better than the rest of the boring run of the mill copycat car shapes out there.

removed the interior boot trim panels to find what was sliding up and down inside the boot when i close/open it. didn't find anything out of the ordinary, put it back together and got silence. easy fix, chuffed.
took some pics that may help others find the clip positions if they wanna do the same so here they are - basically take the top piece off first (near the brake light) then the sides, then the bottom (two hidden torx screws behind grab handle holes). hope they help!:

I get the same thing only noticed it the last few months. Something sliding, one on each side...

my guess is it's a clip that hasn't been housed in the trim before attaching to the car and is sliding up and down as it passes horizontal. see third picture above, the two slots allow a few inches of movement and as i pulled the trim off the clip was still in the bodywork. all the others come out with the trim (though 2 were missing, cheers vw!)

Sounds like that the issue as i only noticed it after one of my passengers closed it with a stupid amount of force!
