Re: hands free
Hi Bobby
I have handsfree on my R but it's controlled through the head unit.
I guess yours was not factory fitted, hence the need for the unit on the air vent.
Do you know which head unit model is fitted in your car?

It sounds as if you have the VW dealer fit bluetooth as opposed to the factory fitted bluetooth which has the module under the driver's seat and integrstes seamlessly.with the headunit and the MFD.
I think the dealer fit one is a rebranded Bury kit

You could replace it with a Fiscon BT system which will work through the head unit and multifunction wheel. I have one in my TSi and it operates just like a factory fit BT system.

If you decide to uninstall the rebranded bury unit (if that's what it is) yourself.... Take caution, it's an absolute NIGHTMARE to get out! I found mine was cable tied so far behind the steering wheel, I couldnt get to the wires.
