Hi Scirocco Central, newly joined up here as I'm considering becoming a Scirocco owner myself!!
Just a quick question regarding the 1.4tsi 160ps engine, I have been reading up on this forum and it all seems to be affecting 09/10 cars, and recently a 2012 scirocco registered in March that Im very keen in has this engine (CAVD engine code comes up in hpi check)
In the later sciroccos such as the one Im looking at would it be affected by these problems that everyone else is experiencing ?
Car has under 30k miles and is currently in a Volkswagen dealer.
Thanks,
Joel
1.4TSI 160 Question
Re: 1.4TSI 160 Question
Joel,
If you have read through the (numerous) threads on this, then I think you have answered your own question: no, the 2012 should be free of the software and piston design issues affecting the 09 and 10 plate models.
I might mention that I've had my 2011 plate for 15 months, 6000 miles, and have had encountered no issues.
Are you after a manual or dsg? Stay clear of the latter on pre-2013 models, unless it has had an upgraded clutch pack.
EDIT: just seen that the one you're looking for is from a VW dealer; in which case, I would be comfortable with buying a dsg, so long as it has full VW service history. VW are aware of the dsg issue, and so long as you've bought from a VW dealer and the car has a full VW service history, you'll be able to get a new clutch pack if things goes wrong. I can tell you how to best test the box.

Re: 1.4TSI 160 Question
Thanks for the answer moulin12,
Actually think I managed to read through nearly all of the threads about it ha! But just wanted to make sure.
And I'm looking at a manual so hopefully all should be good!

Re: 1.4TSI 160 Question
Had my 2011 plate 160 from new and now done 40k miles and not experienced any issues apart from a tailgate rattle fixed early on. Still loving it

Re: 1.4TSI 160 Question
Hi Joel. I imagine you might have come across my post about my 2011 plate 160. After 50k miles, the engine had to be replaced due to significant bore/valve/piston/injector damage. Looking at earlier replies on here I would stick with 2012 onwards as I'd hate any scirocco lover to be without their roc for 7 weeks (and £3k lighter) like I was. Good luck.

I hadn't realised that your problems were with a 2011 plate; for some reason, I read MY2011!samwhunt wrote:Hi Joel. I imagine you might have come across my post about my 2011 plate 160. This is the first time I've read of engine problems with a MY2012; food for thought.
