Is it just me or does variable servicing confuse dealers when it comes to what parts get changed at each service?
Today I had a 45,000miles service and to my knowledge its only had one fuel filter change and that was at 36,0000 which to me means that by the time my next service is due the filter will be long overdue.
I'll prob end up changing myself as I never like to leave it up to them but I just think this so called bullet proof servicing scheme doesn't seem to contain common sense sometimes

Fuel filter on the diesel is every 40k miles therefore next time it is due will be 76k miles. Variable or Longlife service regime maximum mileage between services is 18,600 miles, therefore your next service will be due before the filter needs changed. Have it changed at the next service.
I'm not a fan of the longlife / variable regime and have mine serviced every 9,300 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first.

I'm sure fuel filters are required every 20k. I mean for the cost of them it's worth doing. I always change my oil Inbetween service intervals anyway so it's never in there for more than 10k.

No, it's definitely every 40k on the diesel, it's in the service booklet, but it does no harm to change it sooner, as you say.
You might be mixing it up with VW's Major Service offer.which they say you should have every alternate year or 20k miles and as part of that they include it for the diesel.
