Condensation

Post by Mick »

Hey Fellow Roccos....
Im starting to get condensation on the windscreen...Its mainly happening late afternoon when the temperature drops ( 4-6c )
Any ideas why this is happening or any solutions to fix it? There are no leaks or damp patches on the mats. Im being told it could be the pollen filter needs changing?

Hello Mick,
I had very similar problems so while I was at the garage getting the gauge sweep added I had them run a diagnostic. and as expected there were problems with the air-con.
The 2 problems they found; one with a sensor and the other was a common fault with roccos, the air condensing unit. if you have a local garage or if someone near you has a VAG-COM get them to plug it in and run a diagnostic on it.
Other than that it could obviously be other things but that's my experience so far.

Just be aware that at ambient temps of below around 4 degrees, the air con is automatically disabled so you get more condensation, as the drier isn't doing anything.
Not saying that's your issue, if you have one, as at this time of year hot damp air hitting a cold windscreen is going to condense. I think the rake of the Rocco windscreen makes it more prone.

Thanks chaps...Its still under warranty, however I've since had it mapped so I'm wary taking it in as they will void the warranty...My mate told me to just tell them it was fitted when I bought the car...

I'm pretty sure they'd have to be checking for a map to find it , (the flash counter etc or dyno it) highly doubt you're gonna get caught out for your air con

Happens to my car a lot this time of year. Also been discussed a few times on here before. So not uncommon.Usually soon as I finish work and get in my car it's misted up. What I do is put 2 small silca gel bags you know what you get in trainers etc. on the top of the dash right under the windscreen. And when left there during the day it stops the windscreen from misting up. If not and I try to use the ac to de mist it takes forever.

Vw now have a diag tool that scans and detects ecu changes as part of the diags, this is automatic. So if the dealer does it by the book it could be found,

It's much more intelligent than that, looks at checksums, and even specific engine values to see items out of normal range, warranty claims are now being rejected on the basis of ecu changes being detected. No current remap is undetectable by the process.
