Retrofitting RNS 510 version A does not work BUT B DOES

Post by bianco »

I took out the standard RCD 310 radio with DAB, and plobed in a RNS 510 version A, SW 1000, produced december 2007.
Radio worked, parking radar worked, phone seemed to work (damn "Premium") and MFD in the instrument cluster worked.
BUT the steering wheel controls could not control the radio, neither channel nor volume. And no DAB. :grumpy:

I'll see if I have more luck with a newer RNS 510...

how did you get the new stereo to work in your new car. I thought the stereos were all coded so that they only work in the original car they were fitted to?

When You turn on the radio first time, it asks for at four digit code that came with radio (usually written on the invoice as well). The car computer remembers the code so You do not have to type it in again unless You move the radio to another car.

the cars don't come with these 4 digit codes and the only way to get it is from VW, i'm just wondering for any stolen stereos can they be decoded easy enough for the theives to want to steal them

Bougth it used from a cardealer. Got me a real invoice with factory garantee, code and all.

If You want Your code, then just call Your dealer. He had to type it in when he prep'ed the car for delivery.
