Hi there,
Have trawled the search function but can't find anything relating to my RNS issue. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas as to a couple of issues I'm having with an RNS 510 unit? I'm now on my third Scirocco and have carried forward the unit from my previous '08 model, into a 2012 Bluemotion and now into my 2014 Bluemotion. When VW did the swap from the 08 to 2012 model there didn't seem to be any faults or coding issues although towards the last few months of ownership of the 2012 model it started to flag up 'Temperature Settings Unavailable At This Time'. In the current 2014 model I have had this message along with an 'OPS Unavailable at this time' message. Have done a reset, software is version 2720, voice activation installed by VW.
I'm now puzzled by the fact that the radio functions with the car at rest without the engine running but as soon as I start the engine I get a loud pop and an immediate power down of the head unit. Switch off the ignition and normal service resumes.... Am obviously taking it to the dealer to get it looked at (although warranty may be an issue with an old head unit) but wondered first if anyone else has had similar issues so that I can relay this to the workshop to find the fault quicker.
Cheers,
Rich Chester

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts? The unit failed to switch on, VW have cured that fault but now advise they can't turn it off when removing the ignition.

I have read about this problem before, but (unfortunately), for the life of me, I don't remember the solution.
Have they provided you with error codes? There might be something to do with supply voltage to the unit, or perhaps it is now incompatible with your new motor.

Hi dimexi,
Sorry for the delay replying, yeah they sent the unit away to be analysed and fitted a 'temporary replacement' whilst they did it, same fault with the newer unit. Suspected fault with the new car's wiring loom somewhere along the line. Have to say though Inchcape Altrincham have really looked after me despite struggling to diagnose the fault. In the end they've sourced a replacement car for me, although after 5 and a half years of Scirocco ownership, it's now time for a change. So today I'll be the proud owner of a Golf GTI Performance Pack. Will miss the Scirocco though!
All the best,
Rich C
