sat nav

Post by Draug »

Hi

I'm looking to buy a Sirocco. It wont be a brand new one. I've checked autotrader, ebay etc. and I'm after 170 GTI version of it. I've noticed that only few of them have a sat nav radio as a standard.

So my question is, what would be the cost of upgrade, would it be very difficult if i would want to swap radio by myself? Is it really worth to swap it?

Must admit with great free smart phone apps like Waze I've not bothered with in car systems as unless you've got a fancy subscription system you won't get live traffic updates/auto re-routing. I love Waze, I do around 25k a year all over the country, plus living in central London it has saved me hours by taking me alternative routes I didn't know already. Basically I wouldn't dismiss a car you like based on whether it has built in sat nav and I wouldn't spend £100's fitting one in; just my personal view of course.

The stock SatNav is basic and not particularly impressive. I ended up buying a TomTom GO 5000 which is great at getting you around traffic.

i honestly really like the stock rns510. it has never gotten me lost and ive driven all over the uk with it and also to belgium. it looks good in the dash and may not cost you that much. i think mine was about £500 but i sold my rcd for about £250 so wasnt too bad. pretty sure mine has traffic updates using the designated button and also shows when traffic is coming up on the route. john

i really like the rns510 it has never gotten me los and ive driven allover the uk and through europe with it. Mine has a designated traffic button which tells you about traffic in the area and also will let you know if traffic is coming up on your route. it fits into the dash nicely and looks well in my opinion and also has other decent features. mine was about £500 second hand but i sold my rcd for about £250 wasnt a massive hit. john
