Hi Guys,
I'm having an issue updating the MDI Firmware in my 2008 Scirocco GT. I want to get my iPhone 5s working with it and currently it charges very slowly and there's no control through the RNS 510 HEad unit for it and no playback of any songs either. I've had a mate plug in his iPhone 4 and that was able to play music but no controls appeared on screen to switch tot he next track/pause etc.
I've tried downloading the file for the 2009 update, renamed it to just be mdi.bin.enc, copyied it to a USB stick formated with FAT and plaugged it in to the USB connected into the socket under the armrest. Then I turned the car on and turned the RNS 510 unit on and selected 'AUX' from the Media section.
Nothing happens though, I've sat there watching the screen for 5 minutes and nothing changes at all. The light on the USB stick lights up and flashes initially to show it's being read, but after that the light stays on and nothing else happens.
Is there something I'm doing wrong or a step I'm missing? I've managed to update the firmware of the RNS510 without any issue and get the maps onto it as well so this, which should be really simple, is starting to irritate me!
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: MDI Update Issue
I too have had constant issues with the iPhone 5s and the MDI. Apparently there is a new MDI update that VW are working on. So for the moment I just leave my old iPhone 4 in the car for music.
With a 2009 car you should be able to go to the 2011 MDI update, you also need to make sure that the file is in the root directory of the USB device.
Give this 2011 update a try and see if that works - http://www.my-gti.com/3482/volkswagen-m ... -kw22-2011" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: MDI Update Issue
Hi,
Thanks for you reply. I tried the 2011 version, downloaded the file, renamed to mdi.bin.enc and copied it on to a USB stick. Started the car, plugged the USB into the cable and selected aux on the stereo at which point the lights on the USB stick flashed I waited 10 minutes and nothing else happened. No error about wrong version, it's like the system didn't like the file at all.
Any other ideas?

Re: MDI Update Issue
You need to press the MEDIA button, then select MDI. Aux is the 35mm input.
If not i would put some mp3's on the usb drive and try and play them, then you will know if your USB drive is working with the MDI.
