Re: dual mass flywheel clutch
How many miles have you done?
The reason I ask is because my Dual Mass Flywheel has self-destructed in a 15 month old Scirocco GT 2.0 TDI 6 speed manual which has only done 12000 miles. There was a few minutes of a slight vibration followed by a loud bang and a car that wasnt going anywhere. Had a bit of an argument with VW who suggested it might not be covered by the 3 year warranty (!!) but they now tell me it is fixed (under warranty) and I am going to pick it up this afternoon.
Can one of the techy types on this forum tell me whether failure is normal after this sort of mileage?

Re: dual mass flywheel clutch
I may have a problem developing with my duel mass flywheel ! Pulling out of a car park the other day doing 3-4 mph in 1st, as I let the clutch fully out there was a thud from the transmission and the car stalled, It restarted no problem and hasn't given any problem since, I have had no juddering or slipping and was thinking that was the only thing it could have been.
Is it a warning sign that the flywheel is on the way out or is it something that can happen with a duel mass flywheel?
The car has done about 44000 miles, any advice would be good.

Re: dual mass flywheel clutch
Interestingly, since the car was new I had a lot of problems with stalling at low revs. Since I picked up the car again with the new Dual Mass Flywheel it seems to be much better at low revs. It seems much smoother so I wonder if I have had a problem with the flywheel for a long time. They tell me that the problem was not a broken spring which is what usually fails but a manufacturing fault in the flywheel itself.

Re: dual mass flywheel clutch
Hi was just wondering if you have had any more problems with the DMF Clutch and Gearbox since you had it all replaced under warranty a few years ago. I'm asking as I've just had a new DMF fitted as a spring had gone and part of the gearbox housing as that was damaged when it went. Then when they got it back together they said the input bearing has also been damaged snow so that needs replacing as well. Had the car three weeks now and two of those have been in the garage luckily it still has a year of warranty left on it but I'm thinking do I keep the car once its out of warranty.drpeej wrote:Interestingly, since the car was new I had a lot of problems with stalling at low revs. Since I picked up the car again with the new Dual Mass Flywheel it seems to be much better at low revs. It seems much smoother so I wonder if I have had a problem with the flywheel for a long time. Does any one know if I will be given the chance to extend the warranty even though I'm not the first owner and does any one know a ruff cost per year for doing this.
Thanks

Re: dual mass flywheel clutch
Last few weeks, slight 'whine' noise from gearbox. My local (V.W. trained mechanics) small garage completed a regular service and discovered gerabox oil levels minimum or nil!. A refilled gearbox cured the whine and driving well, but the discovered leaking gearbox needed curing. Next day delivered my Scirocco (2011 2.0 ltr turbo diesel blue motion) to gearbox specalist to inspect. Diagnosis!!!!. The Clutch plate has 'ground into the housing' and caused the oil leak. Cure (I chose) is !... A recon gearbox and new clutch etc. ££££££!!. Any help info on..... 1. Is this a regular fault on Scirocco.? 2. If it's a V.W. design fault is there a V.W. solution? (e.g Technical Safety Bulletin etc), so the modified solution can be fitted. 3. Any clues to what causes this failure?.[/quote]
UPDATE... Just spoken to the gearbox specilist.... 'A clutch failure ' (a 'Dual mass flywheel failure'). CAUSES. 'Riding the clutch',(i.e. foot on clutch pedal too long) increases clutch? (or flywheel) temperature results in expansion and damaging clutch housing and oil leaks. Any Comments?. Any info on questions 1>3 above and any chance of help from V.W. main dealer?. Bought the Scirocco 2014 from VAG main dealer (30K miles recorded). 12 months warrenty. No extra warrenty purchased. Mileage now 56K.
