I've just got back from a 2 week / 2000 mile touring holiday around France - and the car needed a bloody good wash !

Image

The Roc did us proud though  , it was loaded up with roofbars ,a roof box full of gear , as much as we could physically pack into the boot - then my two kids (17 & 14) in the back , with me and the missus up front. The roof box and all the extra weight clearly doesn't help with economy much ( i returned an average of 42mpg over the 1978 miles - which i guess isn't bad considering i was mostly traveling on A & B type roads. Fortunately 'Gazole' is just £1 per litre over there  The 177 TDi motor hardly noticed the weight difference though - the huge torque available meant that performance was pretty much unaffected - God ! I love this car !! :D

I have to take to hat off to the MSS spring kit too - having lowered the suspension by nearly 40mm (unladen) -i was a bit worried about the effects of all that extra weight and the dodgy french B roads would have on the ride / harshness . I needn't have worried - it was absolutely fine . All the extra weight only seemed to lower the car by a further 15mm or so , and even with my 12mm spacers on the stock GTS rims , there was no rubbing on the arches . Obviously - speed bumps required some extra caution but thankfully they're not massively abundant over there .

Although it wasn't a prime consideration when buying the car - I'm really pleased just how 'practical' the Rocco has proved to be. My son is 6'2" and my daughter can be a bit of a moaner (!) , but there were never any complaints from the back of the car as we drove down to the Loire Valley region of France and back again - in fact the only 'car related' thing they did say was "Dad, every time someone French pulls up next to us - they spend ages staring and smiling at our car !" :)

Now all i need to do is clean the interior - i'm sure I told them no eating in the back !!

wow dude! I drove two large friends back from Bournmount to Essex and I felt they looked a bit squashed! its reassuring to hear your thoughts on the car. Next year I plan to do a road trip with the missus.. south of france then back up via the alps. good to know the cars decent for it.

Dropped it off at the bodyshop.

Both sides and bonnet being painted plus a puncture wound in my lower fron bumper fixed. Also painting and fitting my Votex side skirts. Saying its a 2010 car only the roof and boot will be original paint lol.

I had the front side light bulb replaced, checked the tyre pressures, reset the tyre gauge and washed it for the second time since I bought it, which was 4 days ago :)

Back from the first long distance trip in the Roc. Surrey, England to Fife, Scotland. No problems at all. More in love with the car than ever. I'll be washing/waxing the car this weekend and hoping to get some of the muck off her.

Had a bluetooth module fitted (not working out so well so far - see separate thread ) :grumpy:
Took Walter to local dealer to try & fix above problem & took a gander at the new shape Roc whilst i was there. Pretty nice but only real advantage I could see was the VW badge rear tail gate opening. The jury is still out regarding the front bumper mod, think i still love the colour coding some of you guys have done, it seems more subtle :)
Then when I got in I cleaned him tonight - after all he'd had a difficult week - done a whole 90 miles & was literally slightly soiled (standards are standard though - right WD?) :)
Hoovered the interior to within an inch of its life - felt quite ashamed when both the fitter and the service chappie at local dealer got in him and saw detritus on the mats
Also found that really useful little hook on the underside of the rear boot cover - excellent for supporting a bag for life full of this weekends leffe rations !

BTW - Lee as ever your mods are awesome. I'm unlikely to ever have anyone in the rear seats & god forbid that they would be allowed to drink in Walter but should I ever find myself transporting Warwick Davies & Peter Dinkelage (heh I should be so lucky) this would be just the ticket. Nevertheless, Sir I salute you, you continue to strive for perfection

Lol thanks (I Think) , The rear isnt just for little people - you'd be surprised just how practical your rocco can be ;) . I've recently returned from a 2000 mile drive around France with my 17yr old son (6' +) and my 14yr old daughter (5' 7") in the back - and they never complained once - in fact they've said the seats were more comfy than my old Bora . Getting in & out isnt as easy as with a 4 door , but once you've got the knack its fine

Much like the covered cup holder and the 'smokers pack' mods up front - I think the addition of the extra (illuminated) 12v socket and the dual folding cup holder in the rear is way preferable to a couple of blanking plates and is a relatively inexpensive way of making the interior 'less cheap' if you know what i mean . Plus (for someone like me) - they are genuinely useful too :)

And dont worry - they're only allowed water in the back ! ;)

Lee,

Do you by any chance have the VW Part number for this part? How easy was fitting it? Just a couple of screws or is there more involved?

Also I see you have a 12V socket in the back as well, was this factory fitted or did you fit this afterwards? If so, do you have any part number or info regarding it? Couple of mods i would like to add!

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Jack , for the 12v socket i actually followed Robs excellent how to over on the SON forum a while ago. Here's the link to the guide http://www.scirocco-owners-network.co.u ... =51&t=3517 . I got the parts from VW and they cost less than £20 . I've popped a USB charger in there and the kids use it for their phones / ipods etc

The part number for the cup holder is 1K0 862 532 . As you will see in Rob's guide above - it's held in by 2 just torx screws and took me just 5 minutes to fit. I got mine here >> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181454203989? ... 1497.l2649
