Boot Lid resprayed when new.. help
I had a problem with my with scirocco that some characters from my badge had fallen off so i took it to a local vw dealership who looked at the boot and said they wouldnt touch it as it had been resprayed...
this means i bought the car new and the bumper has been resprayed.. ive spoke to the garage i bought it from they seemed suprised im just about to take it back im wondering how will this affect me / the value of my car? should they have sold it like this ?

If you bought it new they should have told you that it had been resprayed. If they didn't know then they should take it back and provide a replacement.
Re: Bumpers resprayed when new.. help
a replacement boot? or a respraying?

Car! I wouldn't extact a brand new car to be delivered to me with faults. If their proposal is to replace the boot and/or respray the affected area I would be looking for a refund for putting you out.

That's not your problem - it was sold to you as a new car (was it bought direct from the dealer?) and it doesn't meet the quality standards you or anyone else would expect from VW.

Re: Bumpers resprayed when new.. help
Can't you get the garage you bought it from to do the warrenty work?
If they are saying they have no knowledge of it being resparyed then they can't deny the warrenty work on that grounds?
I am assuming that the bumper dosn't look like its been respayed? It could of just been the dealer talking out his *sre - I have know that happen!!!!

Re: Bumpers resprayed when new.. help
i think take it back to the dealer who supplied the car and see what they say
Golf 7R - Golf 7R - BMW M2
Re: Bumpers resprayed when new.. help
its definately been resprayed. the paint close up is mottled and theres bumps in places but most worringly the paint is cracking under the badge were its been sprayed ontop of the glue hence why the letters are falling off. ive also had an independant garage look at it and they confirm its been resprayed and "very poorly at that" there words not mine.
So im going into the garage i bought it from tomorrow although they deny it has been sprayed saying "its a new car"
my main concerns are because the boot has been resprayed :
1) The car is devalued when i come to sell and it could also make it harder to sell (dealships wont touch it)
2) could alter possible buy back value with the finance comapny on the PCP (should i be telling them about the paint before i go into the garage tomorrow?)
3) vw dealerships thorughout the uk wont honour the warranty on the paint.
most of all im pretty let down that ive had this information withled from me if i had known the boot had been resprayed i would have rejected the car...
any advice and tips on how to deal with this tomorrowis more than appreciated

Re: Bumpers resprayed when new.. help
Did you buy it direct from a main dealer?
Is the PCP in your name i.e. personal purchase and is it through VW Finance?
Did you buy the car new or is it a 2nd hand (ex-demo etc)?
I would take the car to a VW approved bodyshop and ask them to state in writing that in their opinion the car has been resprayed. Take that to the garage you purhcased the vehicle from and ask them to inspect the car for themselves in-house. You need to get them to agree that the car was supplied in that way, whether to their prior knowledge or not, and ammend the terms of the lease plan accordingly. I've heard in the past that cars are often damaged during transport and require touching up before being sold and not necessarily to the dealers knowledge, but it sounds like it was done badly in this case. Once you get that agreed you need to get VW to either respray the affected area or ideally fit a replacement boot lid. If on the other hand your local VW garage refuse to acknowledge any of this get in touch with VW UK and a watchdog of some sort (Office of Fair Trading, Consumer Direct, Citizens Advice Bureau etc). That should make them sit up and take note. You were basically sold damaged goods without your knowledge.

Re: Bumpers resprayed when new.. help
I think you could reasonably expect that a car that is sold as 'new' would be free of fault and defect, which this is not.
Having the PCP with another company could be slightly tricky, and I would have thought your best bet would be to get VW to provide them with some sort of documentation stating that the car had been repaired prior to sale and that this has since been rectified to their standards of quality and workmanship and that it would not affect the resale value of the vehicle. Alternatively, if VW fix up the car good as new (it should all be covered under warranty anyway) you might not need to tell them at all.

Re: Bumpers resprayed when new.. help
I just read this post - I can't believe a dealer would do that. It's outrageous, and illegal too. They sold you a *new* car not a car with a botched repair.
What dealer did you get it from - might be nice to let others who are thinking of buying there exactly what level of service they are likely to expect!

You should have a moral right to know why it was resprayed and who did it and why you weren't told about it on collection.
Re: Boot lid resprayed when new.. help
*update*
i took the car back to the dealership that i bought it from on monday (bear in mind this is 35 miles from where i am) to be told they needed there paint specialist to examine the boot lid before they could take it further and they couldnt comment. They said they have no record of any repair done in there garage.
i took it back the next day and the specialist measured the thickness of the paint (was about 190 on the measuring device compared to 110 on another rocco) and took pictures of the cracking in the paint. he agreed it was a shockingly bad job. The aftersales manager said he would send the data off to VW they would check there logs to see if it had been repaired at there end and that he was really sorry and offered compensation (which he wanted to discuss later) but was pretty sure VW would approve the fault and fix it under warranty.
So today i get a call from the aftersales manager. VW have confirmed that they authorised the repair at the factory and will honour the warranty and fix the boot lid by taking the paint down to the undercoat and respraying.. I told the after sales manager my immediate concern is that when i do come to sell the car it would be devauled because of the respraying of the boot (my brother had trouble selling his mazda because his front bumper had been sprayed) so i asked for a new boot to prevent any devaluation. He told me that this was a bad idea as it would probably not line up properly if they took the boot off and replaced it, he went on to say that the new spray job will be perfect and indistinguishable from new so i had nothing to worry about (is this true?). He also said that once sorted we could discuss compensation.
To date i reported this problem 3 weeks ago (3 weeks after buying the car) Ive been to 4 garages and driven 200 miles and had to take 2 days off work. The car is booked in for the end of may to be fixed which will be about 6 weeks since the problem occured.
not sure what to do next.. do i have anything to worry about if they respray the boot lid in terms of resalability/value? what should i expect in compensation? should i be contacting VW uk?
help appreciated.. i will give the dealership the benefit of the doubt so dont want to name and shame just yet

I am no lawyer or expert in this field but I understand that under the sale of goods act you can reject the goods as not fit for purpose or of not of merchandable quality and ask for your money back.
Re: Boot Lid resprayed when new.. help
what would you expect as compensation value wise?Evil Derboy wrote:My 2 cents. After a proper respray it will be as good as new and you'll have nothing to worry about. As long as the job is done properly no-one will every know it's been done. Many new cars are damaged in transit and so it's not unusual for this kind of thing to happen.
My advice? Get it sprayed. make sure your happy with it. Get some nice compensation and enjoy the car and forget it ever happened.

Get a grip, thats why they give you a paintwork warranty.
They will respray it and it will be good as new, and have full warranty on the work done, and will have absolutley no effect on the reslae value. You dont have to tell anyone about the warranty work when you sell.
New cars get warranty paintwork done all the tim, even before they are sold, so just get it fixed and enjoy the car.
My previous Polo had a blemish in the base coat on the tailgate, they took it in, repsrayed it, good as new.
