New car a with random wire!
Hi guys,
My new (to me) scirocco r got dropped off to me this morning and I already love it!
However there is very odd wire poking out from the dash and running up behind the divers side pillar air bag! It's runs down into the fuse panel area where there is a big bunched up wire attached to a which socket with a + on then it disappears into the car! Can anyone sed any light on this? It's going to drive me crazy! It looks like the wire is earthed behind the actual fuse panel.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

Guess it must be from some hands free kit, can't think what other purpose it would serve. Is it easily removable?

Re: New car a with random wire!
That was my first thought but The car is fitted with Bluetooth and has the roof mounted mic... The wire disappears behind the windscreen pillar where it says air bag so I'm a little nervous about pulling at the panel! The other end splits and one side is earthed behind the fuse board and the other vanishes into the back of the dash... I'm at a loss!

It's maybe been power for a portable sat nav or speed camera detector that was located on the windscreen next to the A Pilllar. Saves wire trailing over rhe dash to the 12V socket.

How easy is it to take off the A pillar cover that has the airbag underneath?

Just pull the pillar cover off, the airbag is in the top section.
Looks like the hands free to me.

Really easy to take the pillar off. Just make sure you unclip the airbag badge thats on it first (trying not to snap the clip) then you take off the fuse box cover, then you take offer the middle section of the a pillar (grey bit next to the fuse cover) then you can pull off the upper a pillar bit.

It could possibly be for an old handsfree kit. They are very hard to remove (the bury units), so the previous owner might have just left the wires.
For me, I wouldnt say the A pillar is easy to remove - refer to the guide in roccopedia about FISCON installation. Try not to break the clips on the airbag logo plate... That was the hardest bit for me

Yeah as long as you pry the airbag badge correct I.e. from either side it should pop out relatively easy. Also after you've removed the middle grey pillar from just next to the fuse box don't be afraid give the a pillar (cream) a good tug out and it will come! You need to pry the metal clip behind the airbag badge for the a pillar to release so pry it and pull at same time!

Re: New car a with random wire!
Thanks for the responses, it does look to me like a hands free kit of someone sort so this weekend I'm going to take the radio out and see if I can find the wires. There is no FISCON menu on the MDF so I assume if it was, the rest of the kit has been removed... I'll keep you up dated!

Re: New car a with random wire!
OK... so I decided that I couldnt wait for the weekend so I have done some more investigation! The wire has the dc adaptor at one end and the other end goes into the back of the fuse box... no sign of a mic but it must be a handsfree kit! Nothing left in the back of the head unit so ive just left it there as I dont want to mess with the fuse box!
However...
I have now found another unknown wire! Its a small red wire coming out the back of the fuse box and runs along the bottom of the drivers side door trim and then goes out of sign under the back seats! It never ends! Im thinking this could be amp related but i need more time to take the back trim off! ARGH!!!

Re: New car a with random wire!
You could contact the previous owner from you registration documents? Just to kindly ask what they were used for. Might save you some head scratching
