Soon to be R owner with questions!

Post by Mike_taylor74 »

Hi all!

Firstly, this is a great site and has helped me choose a replacement for my A5 3.0tdi. After getting annoyed with constant DPF issues, I have opted for petrol and I am due to pick up a 10 plate candy white R with DSG next week and I am very excited after a couple if spirited test drives!

My question is this... should I have it remapped and DSG remapped before collection? The car is currently in Macclesfield so would need a recommendation if possible? Or, should I get to know the car and then have it booked in somewhere near Horsham where I live? Again, recommendations welcome?

I've not had a car mapped before so am unsure of what to look for? I've heard of revo, viezu, apr??? Please help!

Thanks in advance!

It's more having the opportunity to have it done before I get it so I don't have to be without it and then be without a car. However, like you say, what's the rush!

Wait and you'll get twice tbe enjoyment as you'll enjoy as is and then again when mapped. You won't be without a car when it's getting mapped as it's normally done through the OBD port while you wait.

As said above. Wait and enjoy the power of the R. Then when you remap it uou will appreciate it so much more. Otherwise you wont get to feel the difference the 300-400 pound upgrade will make

I have had my R for just over three years now, and do not have a map as yet. I have never been disappointed with the performance, though I will be looking into getting a remap soon. As others have said, enjoy the standard power first and then feel the difference you will spend your money on later...

Hi mike, I'm near Horsham too so will look out for you, my advice is the same, wait and do you research and get used to the car first. If nothing else to pick up on any issues with the new purchase first. In my view a remap is a simple process, take the car to a trusted provider, stay with them whilst they do the work and enjoy the drive home.

If you do get it done I'd love to see what difference it makes.

Heya.. Yeah, got to agree with the guys above on this.. Wait for a while and get to grips with the R as it is for a while.. Learn what it's about first n that..
I keep wanting to get mine mapped but never seem to have gotten round to it yet.. You might even find like me, that there's no need..

Yet..

I think you're all right! I've just been reading all the threads about how awesome they are after a remap and haven't given much thought to how awesome they are already! I'm always one to get carried away!
I've also not driven a FWD for a while so perhaps a good idea to get used to it!
I can't wait to get hold of it now, pick it up on Sunday!
SMB, I'll keep my eye peeled for you, not seen many R's round here so you should stand out!

Thanks for the quick responses!
