Hi All
I've got a very resonant rattle on my 170TDI, purely between 1100-1500 rpm - the lower the gear, the worse it is, and only when throttle is been applied. Before tearing the car apart I'd like to remove / deactivate the soundaktor noise generator to see if that makes any difference. I've found various threads regarding this, but they all seem a bit vague on how - are there any guides / tips on how to lift the scuttle panel for example - I can't raise mine more than around 2cm. Don't want to remove the wipers if possible, but any help / guides for that if required?
Cheers
Si

Re: Soundaktor Removal
I've not seen a scirocco guide, but some tips after I did it
Remove the rubber strip at the front edge of the plastic scuttle cover
Slide the passenger side half away from the other until the two bit separate in the middle, this means u don't need to remove the wipers
Tip, spray wd40 along the base of the windscreen into the slot the scuttle cover sits in, this will help it slide and the removal
Do not try to lift from the front edge
If the cover doesn't just pop out gentle lift the outer edge of the cOver Next to the windscreen and slowly work along to the middle running a finger under the edge which presses into the channel at the base of the windscreen. Be patient as excess pressure will crack the Cover.
Slowly work along until the cover is released,
The soundaktor is in the middle bolted to the windscreen base. If you remove it make sure you don't lose the cable into the hole behind. Good luck

Re: Soundaktor Removal
If you have a rattle between 1100 &1500 rpm it could be the airbox. Mine did this and it sounds like it's behind the dash near the bottom of the screen. Common problem on all the Vag range. Pop the bonnet and get somebody to hold firmly on the airbox whilst holding the revs at the desired rpm.

Re: Soundaktor Removal
Took the rain tray off to look for a rattle which i may have found.
Was a plastic clip on the passenger side.
Just double checked that i didn't have a Soundaktor and it doesn't . No idea why the 2.0 Tsi would need one in the newer models? Sounds great without it, quiet when driving sensibly and loud when flooring it
Everything went great except one bit oops
The stalk sat in a square hole on the far passenger side. Not really sure what purpose it had but its gone now and it all seems to be nice and secure

I slid it a little to far without pulling it up enough and snapped off a little bit of plastic stalk on the underside of the rain tray.SMB wrote: Slide the passenger side half away from the other until the two bit separate in the middle, this means u don't need to remove the wipers
