pick up tomorrow

Post by BAIKAR »

Finally get to go and pick my car up tomorrow. Went to see it saturday and even though it wasnt even cleaned it still looked amazing. So looking forward to driving it and i've a stack of accessories sitting in my garage waiting to be fitted to the car. Even the weather looks good for tomorrow, some clear weather to enjoy it before the rain appears.

Well all went to plan , great day overall and the weather stayed good. Picked up my 2.0tsi GT DSG and it's been well worth the wait. Everything I was expecting and more. Handover was excellent and added to the experience.

Things I noted on the drive home and after playing with the toys on the driveway when I got home are,

The dsg box is the best invention ever. How it's changes so smoothly is the best. It's so relaxing when your not in the mood for being involved in manually changing gear and in traffic well say no more. If your even tempted by it go for it you won't be disappointed.

Went for leather too and it seems better than when I saw it in a demo way back in January, different quality almost? different batch of leather?

I have folding mirrors and after the long on going debate about mirror down I was nervous to try but sure enough it worked. Had a play with the mfd first and found the feature was already enabled so it was just select reverse , set mirror position to L and adjust then set to were you like and that's it. Goes back up if you drive away or change the knob away from L. I don't have xenons and I've never really thought that's what you had to have for mirror down to work. Folding mirrors option only seemed to me the answer which makes sense.

Some others have reported a rasping or rattling noise when going up through the gears. Mine has this and it does sound weird when you start to notice it. I'm running the car easy for the first 1000 miles so even under gentle acceleration just before the dsg changed up you got the noise. Working for a dealership with other manufacturers I've heard rasping and rattling caused by mainly exhausts and it wasn't no where near that. I would describe it more like a tinkle. Haven't done enough miles to narrow it down anymore but it's not worth worrying about and seems to be just part of the car at a certain revs.

parking sensors essential! and very good system from the factory with the optical display on the rcd510

ipod lead was waiting for me!

no squeaks rattles or wiper issues

when i collected the car it already had mats and flaps fitted by mistake but as i'd planned on buying and fitting these later i got them FOC which saved me removing wheels etc to fit

fitted other accessories myself when i got home

alloy pedals are a piece of cake and you don't need the vw special tool, just a couple of skinny flat blade screwdrivers

premium sills, 5 min job

premium mats, better quality than the free ones i got plus they say scirooco.

fitted accesory coat hanger to passenger seat headrest as the single hook in the back isnt really suitable for hanging much on

boot liner, first aid kit and triangle fitted nicely.

I have the smokers pack but only for the cover as I don't smoke. I had ordered a VW torch to go in place of the lighter but found out when i went to fit it the lid won't catch properly so either back to a 12v socket cover or i'll have another quick look at it.

I'm fitting one of the bury bluetooth kits today hopefully and will post how that goes later as no one seems to have even mentioned these kits even though they seem like a great piece of kit if fitted correctly. The kit can be bought through a vw garage and i think they fit it for around 200 all in. I bought my kit elsewhere as it was cheaper but I would recommend buying the quadlock adapter cables from the dealership as it'll make the install go so much easier.

I've a few other oem things i want to change but nothing major, cupholder etc but right now i'm more than happy

read the manual and love little touches like how it changes the a/c to recirc automatically if you put on the frt washers so you don't get the smell of washer fluid coming in, also does it when reversing so it doesn't draw in exhaust fumes!

its hard to understand now when all you want is the car to arrive but the day you collect is a great feeling if like me its your first ever new car. I could go through the wait all over again just for the first drive away from the forecourt...........maybe not 2 months but you know what I mean. Enjoy and safe driving!

nah, DIY and save the money

you can even fit the flaps without a lift or taking the wheels off. Its just a case of not using the additional screws for which you have to make you own holes in the splash guard to fit. the are nice and secure with just the original bolts.

Yup, that was my intention, the £320 was just for the bits not including fitting they said the parts dept couldn't give a discount, aye right... :grumpy:

They have at least 20% on all the accessories so if your spending that kind of money they should give you 10% off
