Should I be worried?

Post by reefman »

I've just transferred my insurance to my13 plate 177 tdi and the insurers came back with a 140 model. I explained it wasn't that one, they couldn't find the 177 but had a 170 which they've put it under. I'm sure its a 170 given it performance (I used to have one a few years back) but cant check on the reg doc as I've not got it yet. All the dealer paperwork confirms it is the 177 but could there be an issue with DVLA?

This sounds like it is all ok. For insurance purposes I am sure the 177 is classed as the 170, I doubt if they would make premium adjustments for a small hike in engine power, but worth double checking if any lingering worries.

The registration database look up can have errors but the insurance database should have the 177 variant on it. Go onto any insurance website and start a quote and see if it gives you the 177 option and if so get back onto your insurance company. It's very.unlikey it will change the premium but it is important it's the correct car as insurance companies will now use any excuse to not pay a claim.

When I do a quote I need to select the details of the car manually as the reg look up says it's an auto when in fact it's a nanual. Also an error on the V5 thanks to an.error by VW when doing the paperwork when importing.

The manual vs auto mistake affects quite a lot of 170s and yes it has come up before a few times.

Funny you say that Bob, Mine is exactly the same. Comes up as dsg but is actually a manual box so same problem for me too, mine is a 2010 plate 170 and yes there does seem to be quite a few with the same mistake. As long as you let your insurance know the correct details for your vehicle (in your case engine power being 177) then there shouldnt be any problems.
