pros and cons for each car with a 2.0tsi engine?
Hi everyone,
Discussion time, as all car lovers love to compare, thought I'd open discussion on the forum...
I used to own a sirocco gt with the 2.0t dsg and loved the engine. But have since moved on to different cars.
Now I'm back in the market for a car which can handle my 6 mile each way a day commute, not too huge, sensible to run insurance and mpg wise and drive in traffic and an engine which sounds good.
I've got 2 young children (2 and under 1) but I can't decide if I need use of rear seats at all or not. (I do have another car which will easily handle people carrying)
So my tenancy is either a 6 cylinder bmw auto or a 2 litre turbo vag dsg.
My daily commute is 6 miles in 30/40/60 mph roads with no traffic in the morning so can give it bit of a run but stuck in traffic on the return. So clearly pure bhp and drifting round corners isn't a requirement but still nice to have a bit of oomph.
I want something which is has a nice engine sound and is ok to drive in traffic. And preferably slightly more performance than the bmw e93 325i I'm driving at the moment.
My 'short' list (I know it's widely varied!) is:-
Bmw f30 335i auto
Bmw f10 135i auto
Seat leon 5dr cupra 280 dsg
Vw golf gti mk 7 dsg
Vw scirocco 2.0 tsi dsg (either current or upcoming facelift)
Audi s3 saloon dsg
Audi tt 2.0 tfsi stronic (mk 3 due september)
Audi tt 2.0 tfsi Stronic (current model)
Audi a5 sportback 2.0 tsi stronic
Looking in the 20-30k range so new/used depending on the model (eg 335i can be had at a huge discount from new in the mid 20s though rwd might be a pain if we get a bad winter since there's a fairly steep short slope i need to go up most of the time!)
Any thoughts or suggestions or comments on any of the cars in the list and how they compare to the scirocco?

Personally I'd have either the audi TT or audi S3. Thats the only 2 I'd go for when I eventually change my scirooco :-)

They're what I'm leaning towards at the moment. But I really don't know why, since I'm not really a badge snob (except Skoda!). On paper, the Seat Leon (based on the new MQB) or a nearly new Scirocco should offer better value for money whilst being based on the same platform and engines (Ok the S3 isn't since it's 300bhp, but Audi annoyingly don't do an S3 with the 211bhp 2.0T). Yet somehow the Golf and Seat in particular are not standing out as the must have no-brainer bang for you buck options...shshivji wrote:Personally I'd have either the audi TT or audi S3. Have you considered the mk7 Golf R leasing deals are quite frankly amazing you could be sat in one for 24 months for 300 per month inc vat.. or to put it another way sub £4.5k per year.jc74 wrote:

I did, but on face of it I didn't really think that I could justify what looked like the extra around £4000 list price above the Golf GTI (given the GTI would have been sufficient performance for my liking). But looking at the lease deals suggesting it's around an extra £20 per month more than a Golf GTI, it'd be crazy to say nob0rk wrote:Have you considered the mk7 Golf R leasing deals are quite frankly amazing you could be sat in one for 24 months for 300 per month inc vat.. or to put it another way sub £4.5k per year.jc74 wrote:

Thanks, it's been great for the last month or so that I've had it. Drives like a normal/sedate car, below 2500rpm, and then as soon as it hits that magic level, the turbo kicks in and off you go!shshivji wrote:Good choice buddy!! Put some pics up when you get it. Finally put up a pic of it, but have gotten rid of the car now and replaced it with an S5 Sportback instead, more practical and sounds better and a bit faster
