My Pewter Beauty

Post by nickp »

.........in the rain.

At last my Roc has arrived. WoooHooo :driver:
I picked it up at 2pm on Friday and already I adore it. What a car!

Unfortunately the rain only held off for 1/2 an hour so it's first photo call was a bit of a wash out though I did manage to take a couple of snaps.

For those still waiting for their Rocs I can confirm that nothing beats that first drive off of the forecourt. Such a buzz!

My first journey was a 30 mile trip to a friends house (and they only live 5 miles from the dealership haha) to use their scenic garden for some photos, but as it turned out I spent most of the time sheltering from the rain in their garage fitting my Hatchbag boot liner (see my "Seat Cover Query" topic for which more pics will be posted shortly) so that I could take my dads dog to the park.

My first impression was of how easy it is to drive. So smooth and responsive (and quiet compared to my old Pug) and the DSG gearbox I just love.
I've driven it pretty sensibly so far (as I intend to do for most of the first K) but on my way home from the Arsenal-Chelsea semi-final last night I got caught behind a pissed (or talking on their Mobile) driver who was weaving all over the place. I could see the road ahead was clear so I gave him a wide berth and eased onto the gas to power past.
The way we were pinned back in our seats gave me and my girlfriend one of those Cheshire Cats moments. Priceless.
(And I've still not had it in Sport or used the paddles).

Anyway since then I've had a hectic weekend and frustratingly have not been able to spend nearly enough time behind the wheel (only 90 miles so far) and a I've a similar schedule for the next few days.
I will however post more pics and opinions a.s.a.p.

I've only had time to briefly browse the manual too so there is still so much I've yet to learn and discover.
For the record I can confirm that I DO have the Mirror Down Function on the MFD but I haven't set it up yet (no Xenons though).
The dealers wouldn't switch off my DRL's at any cost and even gave me an official letter stating that the one of the reasons the Roc was given the safety classification that it has was because it has DRL's and therefore turning them off would be contradicting it's official grouping.
So What? me thinks, just turn them off, but they wouldn't.
My salesman was sympathetic though and did try for me.
I just keep the side-lights on for now (not a bad option) though I may seek out someone with VAGCOM sooner or later.
Also, no rattles and very minimal (if any) windscreen smear

For me personally it's way too early to consider mods and lowering etc.
For now I'm just looking forward to getting to Know it as is and getting a few miles on the clock.
So far I just love the way it looks and drives.
Can't wait til I've got more time on my hands.
Will report more when I do. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Glad you are delighted with your new car - this feeling doesnt wear off I can assure you. And when you've run it in a bit and let loose your right foot it just gets better :D

I thought that initially, but now with 6K miles on the clock I find myself sitting in APS in Brackley using their wifi whilst they do the remap .... having just taken the car for a spin after they put the Milltek on for me to decide whether too loud or not ....... and it isnt so its staying on :D

Enjoy the car!

Agree with Andy's comments as the pewter does look well in the metal - If you can tear yourself away on Saturday I will be heading over to Gaydon from North London and can show you what the car can do as I am well past the running in stage!!
My Roc was fast - but now its FASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the invite. I would come if I could but unfortunately am just too busy this week (and for the next couple).
I'm dog sitting, got a house full of builders (who work on Saturdays too) and am trying to get through a pile of work on my computer which is nigh on impossible at the mo with all the noise going on around me.
The worst bit staring out the window and seeing the Roc begging me to jump in and leave all the chaos behind :grumpy:
Still it's better than being in situation I was in last week which was still waiting for the Roc to arrive :)

Am seriously thinking of setting my alarm clock for 3am one morning just so I can nip out and get a couple of hours driving in.

I will deffo come to a meet sometime this summer. I see there might be another one at Gaydon later in the year.
Have not been to a meet before so would be great to see a selection of Rocs and to put faces to the names from here.
