Re: Cars you have owned before getting a Rocco??
Hi All,
My first post and love the forum,
Vauxhall Astra 1.6 red Bought for £1k and spent loads more on it, was a deathtrap and kept stalling on motorways.
VW Golf MK3 2.0 GTI Bright red and immaculate
02 Audi A3 1.8T in Dolphin Grey, nice and fast.
05 VW Golf MK6 2.0 TDI - Gave up at 110k ish when the turbo failed and oil pretty much made the car repair costs too expensive to repair.
09 VW Rocco 2.0 TDI 140 Black with DSG and 29k - Bought in September 2012 and loving it!

Re: Cars you have owned before getting a Rocco??
I've been around a while (i'm 43) - so its quite a long list !
Passed my test in '87 .My dad was into classic cars and i kinda had the bug for them too .
I learnt to drive in this - My dads Sunbeam Stiletto with an uprated 998cc sport engine - great fun to drive
When i passed my test , i bought this - a '64 Cortina 1500GT 2dr , i cant remember how many engines & gearboxes i went through in this motor ! I loved this car and thrashed it mercilessly for years . Wish i still had it now - they're worth a few quid
Eventually the 'tina died and went to the big scrapyard in the sky . A Viva HC acted as a stop gap , but only lasted a month or two - it was so sloooooow
Next came a string of escorts , my first was this Mk2 Mexico . This is where the modding really started.
I fitted a 2.0 pinto on twin webber 40 DCOE's , roll cage , spot lights the lot . Unfortunately it got nicked and was never recovered.
Next was this beast , A Vauxhall Firenza 2.3 SL Sport . It was fast ! - But rotten... lol (Library picture)
Back to escorts again , with my Mk1 Mexico 'replica' . I worked at a Ford dealership at the time and found the last set of genuine steel works arches in europe . Lowered on 15" minilites - I painted it in LeMans Green and fitted the Mexico decals . I was running a 1600 x-flow on twin webbers . This car was absolutely mint - out of all of them , this is the one i wished i'd kept the most ! . They go for stupid money now
It was time to leave my parents house , and sold the escort, to put a deposit on a flat . I bought this bag of cack - a Capri 1300 to smoke around in.
Once back on my feet , i built this Mk2 . It was a weapon ! . 2.2 all steel pinto on 45's . 5 Speed straight cut 'box , LSD , the works. There genuinely wasn't much around my area that could keep up with it. That's my Yamaha DT125LC in the background too. I didn't have a garage at the flat , so had to chain it to the lamp-post outside !
Marriage & Kids eventually came along , and as roll cages and baby seats don't mix - my escort had to go Along came a string of 'boring yet practical' Vauxhall cavaliers
another of my cav's - this ones a Mk3 . Boring , practical but utterly reliable and cheap to run - it served a purpose !
A van full of eastern europeans wrote off my final cavalier , so i replaced it with this Vectra . It was a 2.0 GLS , but i fitted the GSI bodykit and wheels . I quite liked this car
The Vectra caught fire (perished injection pipes) and i dipped my toe in to the world of Volkswagen.
I owned this Bora 130 TDi SE for 9 years - the longest i'd ever owned anything ! , did 150,000 miles in it - and it never let me down once. The build quality & reliability definitely switched me over to VW
The Bora was getting tired , and i was itching for a change. I'd always admired the new Scirocco - so in 2010 I started saving - HARD ! . After saving some money / getting a loan / selling one of my motorbikes - i eventually had enough to buy this - my Rocco GTS 177 TDi . I've never had a brand new car before and Its my pride and joy
Talking of bikes - i may as well include them !, this was my first 'big bike' after passing my test on that DT125Lc above. Its a Honda XL600R. Big single 4 stroke , with no electric start . Never again..........
Throughout my 'Cavalier Years' I needed something to satisfy my need for speed , and my creative side too . This '82 Kawasaki Z750 started my line of heavily modified / highly tuned sportsbikes.
Next was my '90 Suzuki GSXR1100L - Yes thats me being a hooligan ! it was the 1st of my bikes to be featured in 'Streetfighters Magazine'
I sold that to build this - it's a GSXR 7/11 ( 750 frame with an 1100cc engine) . It was pretty special , with almost nothing left as standard. I fitted a 1216cc big bore kit and Nitrous too - it was quick !. Again it was also featured in the mag , this is one of the studio pics.
This was my next one , and was even more extreme . I made or modified virtually every component myself .This one had a special engine block , taking it out to 1340cc (From 1100) and a boat load of one off / very trick components. It was pushing around 240 bhp at the rear wheel .I drag raced it and ran a 9.8 @145mph .It was featured in a bunch of magazines both here and in the USA. I also won the 2012 Carole Nash 'Built in Britain' competition with this bike >> http://www.uklee.net << . It's mainly thanks to the sale of this bike that i have my lovely Rocco GTS today
Bikes are in my blood , and i'll always have 2 wheels in the garage . I've still got this to potter around on though , an '06 GSXR 1000 K6 . I've had it since 2007 and it's been my 'back up' whilst i built the custom bikes. It's so light , handles so well and goes so ridiculously fast- I'll never sell this bike
So here we are - bang up to date - Who wouldn't be happy with these 2 on the drive ?

Re: Cars you have owned before getting a Rocco??
Having learned to drive in a 1.3 Nova SR...
I passed my test in '97 and bought my first car, aged 17. An F reg, 1.3 Cavalier Saloon. This isn't mine, but it's exactly the same.
Cost me a grand and was a cracker when I got it. It was a complete tank with a piddly engine for a car that size, but (from a new driver point of view) boy it could drive! I loved it to bits and have so many awesome memories in it. By the time I scrapped it around 3 years later, it had dents in every panel, had no passenger seat and reeked of battery acid because unintentionally i left an upturned battery on it overnight, it had been stolen and recovered twice and was known to the police as one of the most notorious, local boy-racer cars and skinning-up spots. I'd race absolutely anyone and would do the stupidest things just to win. Jumping lights, wrong side of the road, round roundabouts the wrong way etc.. I never properly crashed it, or received any points in it. Some of the things I did in that car, I should either have died or been put in prison for doing. Looking back, it's not big or clever, but hey, I was young and foolish.
After that I got a AX GT pocket rocket similar to this...
Made of plastic, spit and duct tape but fun as hell to drive. Didn't have it too long as it got hit by a waggon on a car park and written off. One of the funniest memories of it, however, was reversing at about 2mph after being parked up having a smoke with some mates, hearing a massive 'POP' and looking in my rear-view mirror to see that I'd backed into a lamp-post and due to the hatch being connected to the hinges by the rear glass, I now had no back end whatsoever. Having to drive down the motorway from Blackpool to Manchester, stoned, in the middle of winter with no back end was fun...
After that I very stupidly bought one of these from a workmate looking for a quick sale...
Vauxhall Calibra 2.5 V6.
I really bought it on an alcohol fueled whim and really didn't take into account how much it would cost me to run it....but what mattered was that it looked the shizzle with full leather and big rims and it went like hot shit off a shovel.
It was fun whilst it lasted and I pulled SO many girls with the help of this car....but I sensibly sold it at a £150 profit after a few months of frivolous fun.
Next came my first 'proper' car. A 1.5i V-tec Civic.
It was standard but was a good car tbh. Loved how the V-tec would rev for fun, even if it was a little bland in the drivability department. Had it for around 2 years but then I bottomed out in a dip on a 60mph country road in Blackburn, lost control, went sideways before going over twice and ending up on the roof. The stretch and dip is a known accident black-spot and there are numerous gouge marks in the tarmac at the bottom of that dip in the road where people have done the same as I did. I wasn't racing and was doing around 65 when it went pear-shaped. Luckily, I was perfectly ok. Just a bruise on my right shoulder where I hit the pillar, mid-roll....and a bump on my head as I landed on it upon coming to rest upside-down. Needless to say, the car was a little more banged up than I was.
Got the insurance back from the V-tec and decided to upgrade to a Type R.
Jap import. 25k on the clock from one owner. Absolutely mint condition and completely factory standard. A complete peach of a car. I'd matured and calmed down a fair bit by this time and so ended up having this for over three years with no issues of note. Sold it, still in it's standard state when I fell in love and needed cash to do the 'home making' thing.
Since then, had a 1.8 Vectra (zzzz) and as of right now I have a 1.6 Astra. Both just boring daily runners to get me to work and back and take me where I need to be. Nothing more. My 'car life' has been pretty boring the last few years, to say the least
Until I get my brand spanking Indium GTS, that is...

Re: Cars you have owned before getting a Rocco??
Have had a history of both bikes and cars, learned to drive when I was 13 or so and started racing hot rods
Then got on the roads on a bike,
Honda NSR 80cc
60mph flat out of single cylinder two stroke smelling heaven for a teenager!
Then moved to cars, a Mitsubishi mirage import, 1.3, don't have any pics, prob just as well as I was in my fast and furious phase and fitted a large picnic table to the back. He'll I thought it was a good idea at the time!
Moved on to a '99 1.6 comfort line golf with some mods
One of my favourite cars to have owned, I miss it.
Sold that for a 2004 Hyundai coupe in a moment of madness, again no pics, prob just as well!
Next up was my favourite of the lot, '98 st205 gt4 celica. Loved everything about it, really miss it and def want another
Replaced it with a '98 sti type r impreza, an awesome car but I didn't trust the engine not to go bang and never was fully comfortable with it
Got this as a toy after the impreza, and ran both until the Audi
Then for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to buy this
Easier not to comment on that one!
Came to my senses and bought another awesome car, my dc2 integra
Changed that then for a 2003 a4 1.9tdi 130bhp sport. Very very impressive but gave me a few problems and became expensive to maintain at the start of a recession!
I took a break from nice cars for a few years to do a bit of this
And ended up driving a bloody scenic. Worst. Car. Ever. Hasn't given me any problems it's just a disgusting place to be!

Re: Cars you have owned before getting a Rocco??
I started with a mk2 1.3 3dr astra, moved on to a corsa b which was heavily modified & magazine featured. Next came a 180bhp Mitsubishi FTO gr 2.0 v6 on chrome 18s & a few other mods, sold that & bought a mk4 1.6 golf 5dr & slammed that on rims, aim was to save money but it didn't so after a change of job along came the next car. A red Mitsubishi FTO gpx 2.0 v6 mivec which ended up wearing a full veilside kit, New wheels, custom kandy orange paint, chrome & carbon engine bay, New interior & other custom bits.
After this I bought 350z number one. A pearl white example with smoothed bumpers & cameras in both bumpers, also a set of Rota GTRs in black. Sold this to fund my first house & bought mk4 5dr golf number 2 lol. Again a 1.6 but blue this time, along came another set of coils & a set of rs4 alloys. Rapidly got bored of that, bought a 3 series coupe, hated that more lol.
Bought a 58 plate Hyundai coupe siii, nice car very well spec'd but as interesting as watching paint dry.
Along came 350z number 2 which I actually have pics handy of, this lasted 11 months of not really using it other than for pleasure so I chopped it for the rocco.
